Your thoughts on the New 707hp 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat

I had a clean '71 and was about to jump into restomod mode hard when someone wanted the car more than I did and the offer was too good to pass up. Bottom line, 40 year old cars are just that and regardless what you do to them, you can't overcome the lack of engineering. This car, at it's piggy weight, is still more car than you could build for the money.

These new Mopars are starting to get really nice and have way more power than you'll use 99.9% of the time. Must be a bunch of race car drivers on this site!

The price tag takes this car out of the hands of the general masses, and in the hands of the older more established enthusiast. Not everyone is geared for the qtr mile or how fast it goes. There are lots of car lovers that simply like what this car has to offer and still retain all the creature comforts of a luxury car and the hp of decent performer. Yes there are other choices that would give you the most bang for the buck if performance is the only thing you are focused on, But unlike the Vette , Viper or GTR, you don't have to crawl out of this car and you can still take the family out for a ride. I would have liked to see a more aggressive stance with some better rims and wider back tires to fill the wheel wells, but that's just me being picky. Overall, it is what it is and I still think it will do well.
 
TurboTn, I DD'd my C6 GS for about a year, it was very comfortable and reliable. Kook's long tubes and NPP exhaust meant that the neighbors got to enjoy the start of my morning commute as well, win for everybody! I really miss that car and the wife and I have been considering a C7.

Vettes were always dollar per dollar the best value for all around performance and still usable. Back in the day, take a stock C5Z, add a 150 wet shot, air filter, 16 inch slicks, and run 10.80's all day long.
 
Very true, but the "bang for the buck" argument starts to lose its luster when you own other cars with much nicer interiors. Unless you use the Vette exclusively as a track car, the squishy dash and wobbly seats really leave a lot to be desired. Fortunately, it looks like they've finally addressed these things with the C7. We're going to wait and see where the Z06 comes in price wise and make some decisions. I'd love to have this exact build, shark grey w/ kalahari interior.

Yea that's not right. Wonder if it's easily modded too, like the 03-04 Cobras were.....

10's on nothing but DR's is sweet. Too bad the Dodge's ECM's take so long to crack. Once these things are tunable they will really move. I could see high 9's with E85 and supporting fuel system mods, pully, headers, exhaust, etc if the rest of the car can handle it.
 
Look, I'm all for dumping $70k on a vehicle over the course of time to restore it, rebuild it, improve it maybe even drag it, but that's over a duration ... $70k in one lump sum where is the suspense, the "Hows it gonna perform?" question that saps a little fun out of it. Modding after that I can't even fathom that. (maybe my wallet it a touch too small.)

That being said ... Its still pretty fucking cool. As most that have posted, I happy modern pony cars are developing the way they are. I'm sick of Prius', Leafs (Leaves?) and all that hybrid electrical shit It takes the fun out of being an American driver (granted driving past a gas station and not stopping is cool too, but).

After my rant ... Great Times/Specs (except weight) I'm curious to see what GM and Ford do next.
 
the car is awesome,come to think of it most of the new stuff runs good and is pretty solid.
 
With a solid axle and tire it would be about 2 seconds faster than 90% or more of the members cars here without adding 1hp

looks like it might not even need that, I like it, and I have been told by a fairly reliable source that they can already get in the ECU do a pulley change and some headers will really wake it up, cold air from the headlights? only Dodge :)
 
I noticed at the bottom it showed nhra certified with street legal drag tires ran 10.8, nhra certified 11.2 with factory street tires. So you have off the dealership lot a very low 11 second capable car and with street legal drag tires can run into the high 10's with a big price tag on it.
That's respectable for pump gas and supercharged, but imagine what that engine could do in a lighter car. I bet the engine could go low 10's high 9's easy if they tossed it into something with a bit less weight. Going to be interesting how chevy and ford going to respond to that challenger.
Noticed they tasked the guys off fast-n-loud to drive the cars, that older challenger did really good turning a 13.6 when they ran a tad slower than that in the day. It's a nice car, but still love my TR even if she isn't a 10-11 second 1/4 mile car especially since i don't owe a bank anything to own her.

I'm impressed, 1 with the performance of the new Hellcat and 2 with the fact that someone will actually bring a Hemi Cuda to the dragstrip and flog it. Anymore all the old school Hemi cars sit in rich guy's collections waiting for the next Barrett Jackson auction where they can sell them to other collectors (or would that be speculators?) for a profit. As far as the Hellcat performance goes GM will have to step up the ZL1 for 2015 to make it a contender. I actually looked at a 2013 ZL1 a couple of weeks ago at a used car lot a few miles from home. I'd like to own one but it's a toad compared to the Hellcat.

Like the big seats and was not expecting to be manual trans. Pretty cool I wonder how it compares to the zl1 camaro.
