Do the '87 cars actually have a 7.5" rear end?

Or did the previous owner of my particular one maybe do a downgrade to make a few bucks before he sold it? Today I was looking at an old book about TBs, and on the list of Buick rear end codes it didn't give a code for an 8.50 rear in 1987, only 7.50 and 7.625. The 8.50 was listed for every year...

Vacuum setup problem: pedal feels good, but braking is weak.

After multiple Powermaster failures I ordered a remanufactured booster (9" double diaphragm) and master cylinder for an '87 Monte Carlo through Rock Auto. I paired them with a brake pedal from a naturally aspirated '83ish Regal. The brakes were bled properly after install, but the braking power...

Need help with an oil leak

Last week I started my GN for the first time in almost three years. On startup there was a lot of smoke coming from a plug sticking out of the block right behind the spark plug for cylinder #6 (rearmost one on the passenger side). It looked like it was covered in sludge. There are no lines of...

Not new to this site, but new to TB ownership

I registered on here a while back as a fan, when my father owned a Grand National. Well I just recently came to own his GN as a result of him getting kinda old and no longer able to maintain and enjoy his cars like he used to. My brother got the Silverado, my sister got the '89 Trans Am (5.7L)...

Starting a GN that has not moved in years

I am going to attempt to start my dad's '87 GN that has been sitting in his garage for probably two years or so. I am going to change the battery and oil and put some fresh gas in it. Anything else I need to do before attempting to fire up a long-neglected TB?

    Pimp-slapped by a GN

Pulled up to a light with a Buick Grand National (black turbocharged Regal). We chatted for a bit and he asked me if I wanted to run 'em. He said he ran mid to high 12's, I told him he had me covered. I hesitated at first because it was a fairly major intersection up the road from a police...

Dave Navarro's GN on Spike TV

I was just watching Ride with Funkmaster Flex on Spike TV and Flex went over to Dave Navarro's (guitarist for Jane's Addiction and at one point the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Carmen Electra's (no introduction needed) house to check out their cars. They looked at Carmen's V12 Mercedes CL600 and...

    Damn LS1's ;)

I took my dad's GN to a get-together at a local park and there was a guy there with a Camaro exactly like mine except that he had chrome wheels. As luck would have it, we both left at the same time and took the same route. When we got to a main artery with clear traffic we went at it, but every...

You guys are too fast; slow down!

I went to Gateway last night and lined up against a gray TB. He didn't 60 ft much better than me but once he did he was goooone, ran a 12.504 @ 113.84 to my 13.707 @ 104.25. Anyone on here? There were at least two other Turbo Regals there, a Grand National running looow 12's and Rob...

    turbocharger/supercharger question

Is a turbocharger considered a type of supercharger? I know they are usually discussed seperately but the only difference is the power source, right? So can't a turbocharger be referred to as a type of supercharger? If this has come up before please excuse my newbness, thanks. :o

Anyone go to Gateway last night?

If not, you are smarter than me. Heat+humidity= :( . My e.t.'s were off by about 4 tenths, trap speeds down by 2-3 mph. Not good. It was enough to squash 2 Stangs and a 300ZX though.:D I did see a dark-colored TB with what appeared to be GN badges, anybody on here?

Who will win: '87 GN vs. '02 Z28

My dad has an '87 Grand National and he wants to race me on the dragstrip. He has an adjustable wastegate (runs 20-22 psi), a Walbro fuel pump, conical K&N filter, and BFG G-Force T/A drag radials. He hasn't run the car yet, but my best is 13.38 @ 105 on a 2.13 60 ft (crappy street tires). He...

    Hello all!

My name is Tom Van Doren; I just introduced myself in the Turbo Lounge but I thought I would come say hi to the Midwest guys here, particularly my St. Louis peeps. I don't have a Turbo Buick but I want one like my dad's '87 GN; hopefully I'll get one someday. Right now I am here to learn about...

Hello! new LS1 invader looking to learn

Hi! My name is Tom and I don't have a Buick but I'm an admirer. My dad has one and I'd like to think that I helped him decide to buy it; he was test driving C4s but I told him I think Grand Nationals are much more badass, not to mention a whole lot rarer. ;) Fortunately he agreed and now that...
