Back in '87 when I bought my GN, little was known on how to make them run faster and the tweaking I was doing was done very little at a time and mostly on a "trial and error" basis, resulting on a lot of wasted runs and wear on the car, UNTIL one day, someone created the
Scanmaster:wink: , which quickly became one of the most popular tools (along with the mandatory boost gauge! ) for tuning your GN.
Now it became possible to do some adjustments, make a run or two and see the results of your mods...
It also helped in eliminating the guesswork as to which bolt-on "accessory" to buy or not...At the time, there were no Buick specialists (or very few) to turn to, and magazines which were our only source of information, were full of ads and articles about "bolt on's" supposed to make GN's go faster...(yeah, sure!...
). A new gadget was showing up every month or so, making it more confusing
. You had to try it for yourself to see if it really worked and often, you found out that what was advertised did very little on no improvement at all!...
)
Then I met Fred Vetter, Jim d'Alessandro, and a little later Eric Shertz who all did some work on my car at one time or another. Thanks to them, I was able to improve my "E.T."s" with parts that really worked like a Dynotech "Stage 6" chip (thanks to Fred Vetter), an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, a Kenne-Bell front mount intercooler, and some sticky tires...But that's a long time ago and these guys aren't around anymore...
