GN Vs. Lamborghini Diablo?

Well, once again my friends and I have gotten in a heated argument about cars (dont we all?). Anyway, some rich guy in our town as just bought a blue Lamborghini Diablo (Zam, I think you've seen it). As my friends were drooling on the car, I calmly mentioned that with a fiew more mods on my car (i.e. Alky, msd 50's and a good tune) I would be able to keep up with/beet that Diablo. This was their reaction-
For my uninformed friends, there seems to be some sourt of mystical powers that surround lamborghinis so that nothing can touch them (especially NOT an 80's sports coupe!). I did admit that the Lamborghini would beat me in the long run with it's 210mph capabilities, however, I do not think that I would be "smoked" in a 1/4 mile run. So, am I just an ignorate car freak who doesnt know what he is talking about, or does my clame have some marit? Please informe me so that I can eather prove to them that my car could run with the best of them or crawl back to them and beg for forgiveness.

P.S.- My car still looks better than a Laboorghini! IMO.

I ran a Diablo, or at least what *looked* like a Diablo (hard to tell while moving, but if it was a clone, it was a damn expensive one) on I-35 in Austin once.

We locked horns at ~ 65. When I nailed it and lit the tires, he tried to come with me. I shut her down at over 110 (which came very quickly I might add) and he was still trying to catch up. I put the weenies on him just to rub it in.. :)

They do have good top end, and they can corner quite well. 1/4 mile though, I'd hand him his ass and wouldn't even sign the receipt... If it were a race above 155, I think the ghini would have the edge. lol

Diablo's were mostly made in the 90's, IIRC. I think they ran low 13's or high 12's, so I guess if your car is in good shape you could do that. In the quarter mile. The car wasn't built for that though, just like your car wasn't built to do long stretches deeeep into the triple digits. Apples and oranges. All depends on what your definition of fast is. Quarter mile? Top speed? Lap time? 0 to 100 to 0? You'd win 1 of the 4. Even a Ford Escort could be modified to be faster in the quarter, don't go for that arguement. Nothing wrong with just appreciating a fine car. And please don't bring on the "if I put in $100,000 in mod's I'd be faster and still have less invested" arguement (someone out there's thinking that one right now). Just appreciate another fine car. :D
I love TR's, but I'm sorry, the Diablo is a better looking car. Not as user friendly and not so good for regular driving though. You've got a great car, no need to compare it to all the others to enjoy it.
Just my .02
;)

Lambo's are kinda weak in the 1/4 mile. It probably has a lot to do with the weight and mainly the gearing that makes it possible to do 210 mph.

Lambo's run anywhere between 13.2 - 12.5 in the 115-120 mph range. So, even a stock GN with the minor mods race gas and slicks could whip up on a lambo in the 1/4, but they'd better have the doors locked, cuz the lambo is gonna suck them off when it goes blowing by it at 125+.

well first of all you better be a damn good driver to get a decent time in the 1/4 out of a lambo...secondly like previously mentioned...they are not built for the 1/4 mile...they are built to just flat out haul ass over 100+ mph...if you do it from a dig you will win everytime up to 100 mph or so...after that you better be letting off otherwise that thing will catch you like no other...

if you have moderate mods (which sounds like) you could take a lambo no problem until the triple digits...those things can run up to 220mph i believe...just imagine going that fast on the street! oh yeah...they have twice as many cylinders as our cars...that is frickin crazy

there fast but id rather own a GN no point in having a point in having a car you can't drive (at least around here) anyway the GN's look better;)

Hey guys, thanks for the info! If anyone else has any added comments, please post.

The reason why I started this argument is that I get ALOT of
S#!@ about having a GN with ONLY 6 cylinders. So whenever I get the chance to prove them wrong, I take it. I have alot of respect for all cars including imports. In fact, I would probably own many different types of cars if I had the money. The main point of my argument was that Diablos DO have compatition, and that competition can come from a 3600# V6 built in the 80's!

I think I speek for all of us in saying that being able to run at 200+ mph would kick A$$! :D

Anyone ever wonder how a Diablo would do in the 1/4 with some sticky's on the rear and a final drive ratio comprable to having a set of 4/11's?

BOOSTD, I've got similar mods to you and wouldn't be afraid of a Diablo from a light or even a slow roll, but I'd stay the hell away from it on the freeway.

Speaking of Diablo's, check this out. Came off thesmokinggun.com website. Do you suppose this guys butt is in a sling.

SEPTEMBER 4--While we normally don't concern ourselves with speeding arrests, we're making an exception in the case of one Dr. William Faenza. The 35-year-old New York City man was arrested Sunday after Pennsylvania cops clocked his 1997 Lamborghini Diablo going a remarkable 182 mph on State Road 443 (a 55 mph zone). According to the below criminal complaint, a tipsy Faenza was not only moving at Jeff Gordon speeds, he was driving recklessly and sped away from pursuing cops. After getting stuck in traffic at about 6 PM, Faenza, a research chemist who was in the area visiting family, refused police orders to exit the blue sports car, but finally relented and "stumbled out of the vehicle." Faenza failed a field sobriety test, which cops administered after smelling booze on his breath and noting that his eyes were bloodshot. Faenza is now facing a variety of charges, including driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and reckless driving.

Thing about cars like that is there arn't too many places to run em. Maybe some highways out west would be fun but honestly how many roads around you are built good enough to handle a 200 mph run, and don't have any traffic? That kinda speed would be great, no doubt about it but where I live it would just be a very expensive status symbol. A well done GN can turn a lot of heads too and I can actually play, at least when it's running.

If I'm not mistaken The Diablo is an all wheel drive car rated at over 500HP. I'll be willing to bet that the Lambo might be pretty respectable in a dead stop race. You definatly wouldn't wanna be caught at a light without some sticky tires. As for driving one all out on the highway I think the best place to do that would be over in Germany. Speaking realisticly, I dont think very many of us will have to worry about coming across any lambo's at lights or driving them on the autobahn.:(

The Diablo is mid-engine rear wheel drive with low pro's...0-60 a modded TR with stick tires will destroy it... In the quarter same TR would destroy it...Diablo has no torque, TR does...Diablo does 210 stock...TR doesn't

According to www.fantasycars.com The '99 Lomborghini Diablo SV makes 530 HP and 603 FT/LBS of torque. I would have to agree that's almost no torque at all. Top speed is 185, 0-60 is 3.9 sec. and it goes 0-100 in 8.6. Like I said before you wouldn't wanna be caught at a light without some sticky tires and the average TR better be in a pretty good state of tune to run it in the 1/4. :D

ok my bad...what I meant was no low end torque...all of the lambos torque is up high like 7000 RPM...And it's not all-wheel-drive unless they changed it recently...the damn thing doesn't even have the same tire height front to back, bet that really burns up those AWD trans-axles.

Crack is bad guys...some of you need to quit hitting the pipe. I would dare to say that the 11.8 is actually conservative. Yes some TRs are faster...but you are comparing a ^&*( REGAL to a Diablo....and to say you wouldn't be afraid of it from a roll....OMG that is too funny.

Hey I said a modded TR on sticky tires...My car would get stomped on hardcore.

Ok.. I have to admit I made a mistake. The SV version is rear wheel Drive.But.. the VT and the roadster versions are 4WD. Again sorry about the mistake.
