As the author would say, they just took some "liberty" with the numbers! Maybe a bare long block, no front cover/pump, oil pan & pick up, no intake, etc. may get it under 300 pounds?

With a built stage block or alum block in the $18-20K range, that complete engine with custom headers, intake, turbos and engine management system, tuned on the dyno would not be out of line price-wise.

Yeah, that's what I meant. They then calculate an $/HP ratio and it looks out of whack.
