Jason, I'm glad to see someone step up and get some sponsorship for the class. I see that you are now the moderator of the TSM section on this board, does that also mean that Scott has officially handed over RRA duties to the class as well?
On the rules proposals:
I have participated in this class since 2006 regularly, built my car around the long established TSM rules, and upgraded turbos and many other parts in order to try to stay somewhat competitive in the class. Now I have to deal with all of these changes.
Items that are not going to be changed for 2011 are the weights just to keep the same records and ET stats.
This class has 3 base rules turbo size ,weights and 109 block .
Based on these two quotes above, how can this rule even be on the ballot.
5. 67 or smaller Turbo - iron heads 3300 lbs/aluminum heads 3450
I don't have a problem with a 67 running in TSM, I just don't think they need the weight break.
We had to buy a turbo last year to stay in the ball park with the heavy hitters in TSM. There is no reason that I should have to run 250 pounds heavier than a car which has an iron headed monster with a 67HPQ or 100 pounds lighter than Al heads which is only rated at 50 less horsepower than my 71HPQ. I switched from a 70 GTQ which is rated at less horsepower than the 67HPQ and the 6765. I didn't get a weight break.
Let's take our current Iron Head record holder for example, I believe he is running a 70GTQ, now he would have to give up 100 pounds to a guy running a 67 which is rated at more horsepower. How does that make sense?
If a guy wants to run a 67 in TSM, have at it. Run what you brung and hope you brung enough or go race in one of the two classes that are built around the 67.
It looks like the troops have been rallied and based on the votes so far in this thread, it doesn't really matter what I think, but this is a deal killer for me. I'll be watching from the sidelines this year if this rule is implemented as it deviates from the core rules of TSM.
