Z06 vs. Viper

I recently got into a debate on super cars that I will never have the cash to own with another member from this board. Basically the debate centers around the Z06 and the Viper. My take is pound for pound the Z06 is the better car, than the top of the line Viper with has a super big ricer-wing on the trunk. He actually emailed me a few videos from youtube, one of them being the record setting time runs in Germany on that super big test coarse. The Viper was 4 seconds faster but they had modified the car shedding weight (40 pounds) and adjusting the suspension cuz the driver couldnt handle the car. No indication of mods to the Z06. Viper are bad rides, but at the end of the day you still got a Dodge:biggrin:

That's actually a ZR1. Don't get me wrong, the Z06 is a bad ass ride. But the ZR1 ranks higher on the scale.

I didn't realize the ACR Hard Core Edition (which is a factory option I think) had recently beaten the Z. That's impressive.

As far as which car is better... That's probably going to always be an opinion based answer. Personally, I have always loved Vipers. But the look of the current generation ACR is just a touch overpowering. While the wing on the back isn't what I would consider rice seeing as it is functional, it is a bit much for a street car IMO. But, many said the same thing about Dodge Daytonas & Plymouth Superbirds 40+ years ago.

Overall, if given the choice between the two, the ZR1 is where I would lean. That car is absolutely stunning visually and performance is completely insane, especially for the price tag.

If I was going to spend that kind of money on a car it would be the Vette no question. I believe it is more the master of both worlds.

I can tell you a local guy has a Viper that has an obsene amount of money in it and states it's the biggest piece of chit he has ever owned and wish he had bought a ZO6 and modded that instead. He says "Never again".

did anyone else notice that the driver of the viper looked like it was a hand full? how about the way the shifter moves all around in the viper. like Shane said @ the end of the day you still have a dodge, a car company that most likely will not be around an a few years.

zr1 vs viper

The ACR is barely even a street factory car. It might as well be a race car. Just the way it looks the thing appears to be something you wouldn't enjoy driving in for more than 30 miles straight. The zr1 is much more of a street car. If chevrolet ditched the ac and radio and just totally gutted a zr1 and stuffed an LSX in it max bore/stroked on the verge on pump gas it would be much more like the ACR too.

the Viper ACR hands down is the one i would pick and if the Viper was out of the picture my next pick would be the MIGHTY FORD GT40:biggrin:
Unlike the slowvette the viper and the GT40 doens't share parts like the brake system from exotic cars like Porsche and Ferrari

On each Top Gear episode they hire a professional driver to test each car around the race track and record its time. They post that time in the order the car finished period. There is no sponsors they are trying to appease. A lot of cars suprise me, a lot of cars don't. The Viper isn't one of those that suprised me.

The base model C6 ZO6 placed #28 on the list with a time of 1:22.4. The Viper SR 10 placed #89 with a time of 1:28.5. That's almost a 6 second difference. Light years actually for as a comparison.

Those are the two Vetts and Vipers 99% of Vette and Viper owners will have.

Now of course were not talking apples to apples here cause the ACR is a completely different car. But so is the ZR1.

The ACR is a flast out race car! It is not something anyone is gonna want to drive on the street for any extended period of time. The ZR1 is also comfortable to sit in and won't cook you in the seat like the Viper will.

But at the track the ACR is faster then the ZR1. Both cost about the same.

If you have ever worked on a dodge car in this decade you would see they are nothing but POS's...

I really can't see how the viper could be much different...
