Turbo LS1 coming soon.

Well I finally got back to my swap in my car after some years. I use to run a built long block v6 with a 66mm turbo. The little v6 pounded out many 6.6s in the 1/8 mile and clicked off a 6.4 a couple times. I finally decided to do a swap to the Ls1 because is cheaper and parts are easy to come by.

Nice to see you back into it... believe it or not, I think your smaller displacement 4.8L may be better suited for that turbo rather than more cubes.

Drove the buick tonight. Just down the alley and back did some tuning and did it again. Feels good to be behind the wheel again.

Congrats Terry. I certainly know how you feel after getting my 4-5 year resto project down the road and then to the track. Wait til you get down the track with it.

Nice!
Terry, Did you use the 1" set back motor mounts?
What accessories system did you use? Truck?
Looks like everything clears.
That high rise intake clears the stock hood?

;) Congrats. I've done the maiden voyage thing a time or two myself with different combinations.

I built the motor mounts, the hood clears barley and the motor sits exactly where the v6 did as far as where the trans and motor mate together. That way I didnt have to change drive shaft lengths.

The car is up and running for about 2 months now. Drove it to work for about 2-3 weeks to work out a good base map and fix any issues. So far so good. Fist pass @ 10psi it went 7.3 in the 1/8 @ 97mph. Last week it went 6.9 in the 1/8 @ 15 psi. I have not been to the dyno so Im guessing what kinda timing this thing likes. So im sure there might be more power on the table for the boost its making. I have read... the LS engines in stock form dont like alot of timing. So now @ 15 psi im at 15 degrees timiing with 11.7 AFR. I dont even know where peak tq is so I cant add timing past that point to help the top end. I will going out tomorrow (Sunday) again with some colder plugs to smooth out the AFR through all gears. Tuesday I plan on going to the dyno to see what this thing likes. My goal is about 200-250 more hp than it makes now. The 6.9 was with an easy 1.79 60 foot time but I usually cut 1.45s when I turn up the 2 step so it might have went a 6.7... I have a guy here at work with an older big body Buick with a big block nitrous chevy motor that I will be racing Sunday the 23 so I need to run 6.3s to be close.

Things I have done over the last couple months to the car:

Added a griffin radiator. Had to modify it to mount it a little more forward toward the bottom, by notching the end tank, adding grommets in the base of the radiator support and weling pins on the bottom of the radiator. Changing the neck sizes and modifying the fan shroud i made years ago.

Added studs to the intercooler piping so I can add connecting links so the intercooler pipes dont blow apart.

Re did the exhaust hangers after the down pipe and added a 4" flexable bellow to reduce the mechanical load on the headers.

Made a LS1 MAP sensor delete aluming plug for the Edelbrock manifold.

Added a fuel fuel filet just before the fuel rail.

Fixed some rear suspension issues.
