A buddy of mine just got an 87 T. Its supposed to have a built trans. He let someone take it for a joyride, and the driver held it in first, then shifted it through the gears when he thought it was time. after that the car has no reverse or neutral, and all of the gears appear to be drive. Even park (will hold the car on a hill) kinda pulls forward!

I thought it was a simple shift cable problem when he described it over the phone, but I drove it tonight. I can count all of the gears as you move the shifter.

Does my description make any sense?

Problem is in the trans. Something has happened to the forward clutch leaving it applied full time,MOST of the time its because the forward clutches have welded themselves together.
Trans needs to come out and be opened up.
