Beware of cloned Walbro fuel pumps

Evidently the Chinese are cloning walbro pumps. The fakes are difficlut to spot, the difference is that the chinese version is using plastic gears instead of metal. Everyone should be made aware!

How to spot a fake walbro.
When you pull the endcap of the pump where the filter goes, inside you will either see metal gears, or some plastic inside.
Metal gearing= GENUINE
Plastic=FAKE.
Ask the company if it has plastic or metal gears (send it back if its plastic).

That info on fuelpumps.net is over four years old. It's been kicked around here and the other forums for a long time now.

This could explain the rash of bad walbro's that started surfacing three years ago.

I still believe Walbro had them made in China as a cost-cutting measure, gave it their best shot, and it backfired on them. We will never know.
