Just got my Precision turbo and I lost power

Concerning "slow spool", you can take your downpipe off and see the carbon trail on the turbo. It may be off center and leaking boost past the flapper. Do you have the regular or hd actuator? What ever you do, you're not going to feel power with your set up at 18lbs.
I mean it don't matter now but when I did install the 6262 the problem was I had lots of turbo lag due to stock converter "way more than I anticipated" and it felt no different than my 49 when it did finally spool. So I felt like it was a big waste of money. Thankfully I was able to sell it. But now I wanna get a stock location Intercooler and thank goodness for this site cause people are tell I'd be wasting my money and that it would be doing nothing for me. I got my ALKY kit coming, it should be here today hopefully.

These guys are NOT BSing you.
i did the same exact thing that you did, buy a bigger turbo for my stock set up and expected to go faster to only slow down a lot.

1- If you have deep pockets keep throwing money at it with random parts and hopefully you'll get lucky and go fast.
or
2- Listen to these guys on the "Matching your combo" part and keep some money in your pocket and go fast.

That's the plan! Cause I'm the type I need to see for myself lol. Anyway thanks for the reply

Who did you buy the turbo from? a good Buick shop would have told that it wouldn't work before selling it to you, When i first got into buicks i went with the best price NOT with best customer service and i always ended up spending more money, I no longer do that.

Seriously Slow Down a minute, think about how fast you want to go then add another second to that then start your build. Also start a build thread and clearly state your goal. Now listen to the advice and take it from there.
In getting advice take notice that you have different ways of going fast.
1- The super tuners -- they go fast on all stock crap they are in my book the guys i listen for tuning advice.
2- The deep pocket guys-- for get them unless your pockets are as deep.
3- The cheap bastards-- i am one of them and i don't have a clue skip these guys.
4- The ladder guys , buy what you need now then buy bigger later -- with these guys skip to the bigger part of the advice.
5- The "do it my way or burn in hell" guys, Not too many here but you'll know when you have come across one.

Have fun and good luck
BTW the way i do it is i go with whatever keeps coming up from the different groups.
For example in your case on this thread -- Get a damn converter already and stop procrastinating about it. lol

Lmaoo. Before I read this that exactly what I did!! Now I really feel like an ass for selling that 6262. Oh well live and buy again lol

Once you get the ALKY installed and get that TA 49 above _22 psi you will begin to start smiling, at 27/28 psi it's even better

I worried the engine might blow up at those pressures no?? I was even thinking 20lbs was to high. Guess we'll see

It's all in the tune. Do not attempt this without knowing your tune !!!
Get a scan master and power logger so you can SEE what is going on with your tune. If you don't know how to tune , post your baseline log and people will help you.
If you ignore the tune you WILL be replacing head gaskets minimally. ..
Take it slow and you will be pretty happy with the 49 and ALKY

Got the scanmaster just need to grab a powerlogger now. Thanx

I ran 27lbs as my standard tune for 7 years with a GT6131. It only failed b/c of a glitch in then fuel pump caused it to push the head gaskets. Alky actually saved it from being worse. If you creep up to it and tune right you'll be fine with 22 or more.

Why ?? ... he doesn't need a convertor for a 49

The stock D5 has gone bottom 11's so many times its stupid ... certainly easy mid 11's ... no reason his setup with the parts he has can't reach mid 11's .. he will just have to step up to the plate and learn the car and what it takes .. and again it aint the parts

If using the 62.
I didn't realize he went back to the 49.

When you say it should run low 11's with those parts you are assuming he has the tires and suspension to dead hook it at high boost off the line I assume.
I have basically this same combo TE44 and its first trip to the track with Nitto 275/50 drag radials was a dismal ... 12.45@110 with a spinning 1.95 60 foot ...
most were 2.0 and 12.5 to 12.8 @ 108 to 109.
My deal and irritation is a dang new Camaro or moostang will out trap me all day long... so I am down HP...
I would love to build my car to have more mid track top end charge so the launch is less important.
Hated that dang Vette walking my butt last year from about the 1/8 mile on trapping 118 to my 110.

Bop, you just need to launch better.

Can't wait to see... I order a stall converter today and ALKY kit... I seen a nice dutt wielder stock Intercooler W/ just the ell on eBay.. Still not sure if I'm wasting my time and money on it though. Many people gave me advice on not to waste my money on it. What say you?

Who did you order the converter from? I hope dusty. Who's alky kit i hope from julio.

If not stop buying parts

Fwiw the small stage 3 turbine or similar equipped turbos will trap in the high 110's and can nip 120mph with converter slip < than 5% with the turbo all in good air. 117-118mph would be typical in ok air. Mph like this is typically hit with good fuel, timing optimized, and converter locked. A lot of racers ran this fast with these small cast wheel turbos back in the late 90's with no scan tools, non adjustable chips and way less garbage internet info to choke on. The car needs to front half properly or it will e.t. shitty. This doesn't matter if it's a 14 sec car or a 6 second car. 60' in the 1.5x and boost in 1&2 need to be the same as 3rd. Getting these small turbo/stock engine applications to ramp in with a Garrett .63 ex housing and stock D5 converter is not that hard especially on a drag strip with decent tires. Foot brake no problem. Getting a good hook at the proper launch rpm and the boost will ramp in in less than a half second. If trying this on 93/alky I'd expect 11.30-11.40 with a little more conservative timing. Though this is not the limit. 10's are definitely possible on 94/alky with an unopened engine. Anyone wanting a car to mph or back half needs to build an engine that can sustain it and be able to dial it in. That's will cost well over $10k and probably close to $20k. You want to really fly in the future take a limiting item like a small stage 3 turbine equipped turbo and run it for about 2 years on stock head and Intercooler car and see how quick you can get it. You will be surprised that it will go a lot further than the internet genius will post it can. Then when you do have the $$$$ to buy heads, cam turbo, Intercooler you will appreciate the potential of everything a lot more. Running a 6262 on an unopened engine with stock trans and converter was a mistake and you did the correct thing by taking a $200 hit and going back to the 49. You can spend that $900 on more important stuff to make your car reliable and quicker instead of chasing the potential of a turbo that will leave you broke (both ways) and pissed off and ultimately selling your car. Spend the $900 on good tires and go to the drag strip every week at least once. You will be bus lengths ahead of the Internet whores in no time

Think you need more heat in the tire and more seat time.. 1.9x 60 foot can be done with a stocker on radials ... 110 will tickle 11's .. Get your 60 foot in the 1.6 range and those cars wont beat you to the finish line

my car 3850#.
I went 11.74 on a fat tune with the Stock IC and Dutt neck, in that combo the IC wasn't the issue it was the tune. Do a search lots of fast cars with the Stock IC with the Dutt neck. That said i did make the move to a front mount just because. BTW i am the guy that can't leave anything alone and i usually make changes for the sake of changing.
