**you Will Not Believe This Sh..!!! Blown Head Gasket While Pulling Out Of Shop!!!**

ecar, the advise might have been tough and a little too late to help you since you already bought your car, but it's the absolute truth. I've seen alot of prospective turbo Buick buyers come here for advise. They're always told that if there are two good reasons not to buy a TB, 1) If you can't do much of the maintainance stuff yourself and 2) If you don't have alot of money. These cars are not for the novice or the poor. Don't take such offense. At least you've got the dough!!

When we are starting out & fall in love with a car, I am sure MANY have been thru a scenario similar to this! I know I learned the hard way! BUT, First thing I did was to start reading & gathering tools. So easy now with the internet unlike in the 70's when you got books & talked with backyard neighbors who were always wrenching on something. I would have spent at least a Million $$ in labor by now if I never owned tools & made this my hobby at an early age! Altho to me, wrenching is half the fun!! What else to do all winter??

I bought my first GN almost 2 years ago. Prior to that, I was into 68-72 GTOs and Lemans. I had never wrenched on a fuel injected car, much less a turbo charged one! But I got a decent deal, so I jumped into TBs. I spent the next 6 months meeting Buick guys and reading this and other Buick sites before I tried to do anything mechanical. But even on his other thread, no one thought getting that r93 chip was a good idea, but he still got it. The best advise won't help you if you don't follow it! He wants to get alky and run 400HP. More upgrades are going to be needed and parts will break and more money will be spent.

ive owned vettes, some ive kept others ive turned, I pretty much know every nut and bolt on the C3's. when i got my DL i asked for tools for xmas, took auto in school.
I got this buick and the first thing I did was sign up here, get a scanmaster and books, and followed the advise of those in the know.
i learned real quick that every time you toss a part at it..it might bitch then Id spend a few hrs troubleshooting and retune, then the next day retune...of course all thats worth it when i take it out and kick it down.

And let me reiterate what i said about dont own one if you cant wrench..not all of us can build a tranny like Brian H
but if one buys into the older market then they should at least be able to change a hose...or be prepared to get hosed.

I Think I Hit A Soft Spot...

good, toss all kinds of parts at it then we'll have to meet up in spring when i pull mine out from its winter slumber cause with my pride and joy..i dont drive mine in the winter and we'll see what all your money adds up to

once again good luck:biggrin:

LOL yet another great post from the almighty. I would go for that;). As long as you don't have a stage II!!! One more condition...don't get mad if lil ol newbie wins...you seem like the violent type:)mad: )

Alot of things could have happened... If you had a 93oct chip and gas and only 16psi you should have been okay unless there were other problems which if they "tuned" it they should have found....

Prices sound like you got ripped:eek:

I know mechanics that have worked on cars 30+ years and are great on most cars. You put a T/R in front of them and they usually are  I would only take it to someone that is fimilar with the cars.....

Hope you enjoy the car, and enjoy the board!

Thanks. Question? How much boost can I run on 93 oct??? Does 16lbs sound a little light???

Not to hijack this thread, but I am on my 5th turbobuick, and I am afraid to so much as replace a spark plug on my own on these cars. Not everybody is as mechanically inclined as others are. I have been very fortunate to have found myself in a truly gifted and generous crowd of turbobuick affectinados in the greater SoCal area, and I am very thankful for it. I would suggest to those not so mechanically inclined like myself, to aquaint yourself with peeps in your area to help you with your car. I am sure that there are some peeps in your area to help/teach you. If that was a bill and not an estimate, and you were left with no recourse but to pay it to ransom your car, you have my sympathy. If you are going to continue paying for your car work, check out the supporting TurboBuick.com supporting vendors / suppliers / shops in your area. Stick with turbobuick specialists and you can't go wrong. HTH

THANK YOU!!! Alls I ask for is advice and I have gotten soo much good ideas it's crazy!!!

well i tried to keep it in private.
Truth be told though, dont hide behind a keyboard calling me out then post my private reply of me taking you up on the invite.

None of this hurts my feelings in anyway and just because I wont sugarcoat my reply from what i read you get all miffed.

i'll say it one more time Good Luck

White Racing has been around for a long time and Dan's prices have always been insane. Im not going to say he doesnt know what he's doing because he's had some fast cars he's worked on but looking at what you got charged for what was done is shocking.

Good luck on getting it straightened out.

16-17#'s would be the max on pump gas I would try....

Agreed...I keep mine lower (about 14-15 psi) because it's supposedly a higher mileage car (according to the previous (2nd) owner it has 165,000 miles but everybody who sees it swears it's 65,000) and I don't know for sure that it's tuned properly (just bought it this past August, put it away for winter. Ordered a Scanmaster and Turbotweak street chip for it today and I'm reading this board all I can to learn more about it before I start playing rough.) And just for the record, I like doing my own wrenching so if anybody wants to help out with any useful pointers as far as tuning etc. please send me a PM and I promise to not lash out at you for trying to help me...

You called out the guy in this thread, what else did you expect? There's nothing wrong with not being able to change the oil in your own car, but you want to go fast. You need to be able to do some basics or be prepared to shell out 3x what you've already paid that shop. You ask for advise on your other thread and then don't seem to have listened to a word of it.

ecarringt22,
Sucks about that bill!!! In my opinion it is alright to have someone else work on you car if you are not able/willing to. As stated in earlier posts though, check around on the boards for reputable shops. Not trying to be a jack-ass but did you research the garage where you have taken your car on here? I basically learned how to do the work on mine over the last 20 years. The last shop that had it apart and tinkered with it was Modern Muscle Car when Mike was on Gratiot Ave. and Rich Bewick built my transmission. That was back in the early 90's. At this point I don't let anyone touch it except to change tires and usually I take them off and carry them.

I would stress getting some scanning tools and when you get your car back and ease into in and watch the data and post what you are getting.

Just my advice.

Oh, how is it up there in MI? I moved from Royal Oak to where I am now back in '98.

Mi is cold but the sun is on it's way out. As for the scanning tools, I plan to buy some as soon as I get my car back. Thanks for the advice!!! I was also looking at a boost control kit but I think that my knowledge isn't there yet to go that far into it. Maybe by next spring. Thanks again.

You are welcome. As far as knowledge goes, it is in the forums. I didn't get mine by gravitational forces tugging on my colon! ;)
