Can I see the timing chain tensioner through the fuel pump blockoff plate or some other way without pulling off the front cover. I had the motor rebuilt w/dbl roller chain but I'm not sure if the tensioner was installed or not and I would rather not have to pulloff the front cover

tensioner is on the other side of the chain. i would think if you could get ahold of one of theose snake cameras you might be ale to go in through the fuel pump opening
easier to pull the cam sensor and go looking from there ,

cam tensioner update

according to the new buick manual, it is recommened to leave it off, as it causes premature wear on the frount lower right side of cam bearing. i believe this was updated a few years ago.

If you are using the double-roller chain, DO NOT use a tensioner. I did that once, it cost me an engine! The tensioner wears out, and in my case, the debris wound up in the oil pickup screen, starving the engine at the top of third, causing a major disaster.
