What is the state of organized BUICK racing on the west coast?

I encourage participants, spectators, and organizers alike to chime in.

Is the WCN still a viable event for us all on the west coast?

What can we do to put together something that BUICK owners and racers on the west coast can be proud of?

Let me go out and make 1 million dollars and get back to you in uhhh, lets say 10yrs., good luck with that one Don.

west coast nats

WCN is a GREAT venue,Lots of fun, Great friendship, and always friendly people. but are not supported by the majority in the south west,
some say its just to far to drive (compared to Las Vegas) others just aren't interested.
"Buick racing event" is pretty much a few guys get together and go to fontana, not so organized, but the usual faces are almost always there!

I feel we need something, not sure what exactly we need, but anything would be better than what we currently have.

I'm not going to get into the promoting end of it, but it WILL need help from everyone to succeed!

Can't speak for the rest of the country but here in CA. drag racing is almost a dead number. The economy, smog laws, cost of living, people with college education glad to find a 15 hr. job. no tracks. etc. nothing positive going on in that direction. Yeah good luck with that Don.

I can't wait to get back out on the track! All we have is Irwindale, Barona, 1/8 and Las Vegas & AZ 1/4

So basically, except for the WCN, it sounds like we would be trying to build something from the ground floor, or more like the basement floor.

What about including other makes in an event? Maybe a BOP event? Just include all makes? A Buick vs The World event?

What type of racing? Class? Index? Bracket?
What type of starting tree? Sportsman (3 amber)? Pro (.5 or .4)?
I personally think index would be a blast. The index classes could be setup anyway that was needed to include as many participants as possible. Even a simple stocker street car index class.
The rules are simple. Run what you brung. No laundry list of certain parts that can or can't be on the car. I think trying to include as many people as possible would really be key.

With my connections, I know it would be easy to put something together at Barona. Have to start somewhere. It's an 1/8 mile track, and those worried about beating up their car can relax with that concern more with an 1/8 mile track. Not nearly the same punishment you get on a 1/4 mile track.

Just throwing out some ideas. What do you think?

Even is this just turns out to be a fantasy event, let's try to put some ideas together. This could be the building blocks for something in the future.

Is anyone not familiar with the different forms of drag racing?
Class
Bracket
Index
Test & Tune

Sportsman Tree
.400 Pro Tree
.500 Pro Tree

Depending on the timing of the event, I might be able to attend. I would like to support a couple of events you guys put on to meet and race with everybody. We have an eighth mile organization in Arizona called Arizona Grudge Racing Association (AGRA).

Rules - Arizona Grudge Racing - Where 1/8th Mile Drag Racing Happens

All classes are run on a 4/10s pro tree. They have a 7.50 and 6.50 heads up index class, and a run what ya brung Renegade class. It is open to all makes and the racing is very close and exciting. If you could get enough Buicks to register you could keep it Buick only. If not, open it up to all makes.

For those of you interested in a BOP event, Speedworld has one two weeks before the WCN every year.

offer all of it the 1st time or two, see what draws the most interest.
work from there.
also a Sat afternoon or eve, so out of town folks can drive to the event, and go home the next day with out the rush!
start with one day, expand if needed,
possible related events - picnic, car show, swap meet, etc..

Good suggestions. Maybe the car show that you fellas are trying to organize could be included or timed on the same weekend.
Barona Casino and Hotel is 5 miles down the road, and there are some other parks on Wildcat Canyon Road that are down the road from the track in case we don't want to cram the car show in the same area with the track event, although it has been done. Maybe one of those parks down the road could handle a car show. I'll look into that.

Would your group be interested in making a road trip to have an event at Barona? Maybe when the heat is on in your area? The index classes you described sound good to me.
Regardless, you're all certainly welcome to come to whatever materializes from this.

RJ Reynolds. Do you have any links to information on the BOP meet and, is there any information of the WCN event? Links?

At this point, I don't see us getting together enough people to do a track rental. 2,500 smackers to do that.
I think that if we pick a day where the track will be operating and there isn't a big event planned, say a simple test and tune day, we could piggy back the test and tune day and pull this off very inexpensively. I've seen other car clubs do the same. The track is very accomodating with this type of setup and would give us our own staging lane or two.
Still, I think we need to let all makes participate in whatever type of eliminations style we choose. This seems to be the pattern when other clubs show up at the track.

RJ Reynolds. Since people seldom use the links that people post up, can I ask a few questions?
The index classes you mentioned, 6.50 and 7.50. Are there rules associated with them? Are they run what you brung?

I play the lotto... if I win, we'll have our own track to race on. That's my plan...

WCN In Phx all the way. I try and make it every year. Hell i have made it every year. We need to get more people to attend there. no reason to build something from the ground up when we have something already. people need to learn to drive. Utah, New mexico, Cally are all close IMOP

Man after my own heart.
I dream of having my own NHRA fully santioned 1/4 mile track in my back yard also! After work, instead of dipping into a pool, throw on the driver's suit and jump in the car for a pass.
