I HAVE A 1985' HOTAIR GN, BRAND NEW EVERYTHING!! MOTOR, COMPONENTS ETC. I ALSO, IN THE PROCESS OF RENEWING, UPGRADED TO 60LB-ERS, AND A COMPLETE 87' ECM CONVERSION IE: MAF, MAP, TRANSLATOR, IGNITION MODULE, IAT SENSOR AND A TT CHIP BURNED FOR THE NEW COMBO. HOWEVER, I DID NOT REPLACE ANY OF THE PRE EXISTING SENSORS AND HARNESS ETC. I AM NOW SINCE THE REBUILD HAVING A PROBLEM STARTING THE CAR. IT TURNED OVER ONCE AND RAN BEAUTIFULLY THE FIRST TIME WE TRIED, BUT SINCE THEN HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESTART. IT JUST TURNS AND TURNS AND TURNS. IT WANTS TO START, BUT IT JUST DOESN'T. WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY REASON FOR REACHING OUT TO YOU ALL. MY BUDDY RAN AN OBD SCAN AND HERE WERE THE RESULTS:

- IAC- SYSTEM PROBLEM, CANNOT SET DESIRED RPM OR ISA- IDLE SPEED ACTUATOR, CARB SYSTEM PROBLEMS.
- ECM FAULT OR O2 SENSOR CIRCUIT FAIL (RICH LEFT/ LEAN LEFT)
- ESC- ELECTRONIC SPARK CONTROL CIRCUIT PROBLEMS
- EST ELECTRONIC SPARK TIMING CIRCUIT (LOW VOLTAGE DETECTED)

BEAR IN MIND NOW ALL THE PLUG WIRE CONNECTIONS , IGNITION MODULE CONNECTIONS AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS INSTALLED PROPERLY AND TRIPLE CHECKED. WE ALSO DOUBLE CHECKED CAM TIMING WAS CORRECT AND IT IS AND ATTEMPTED TO USE A CAM SENSOR TOOL TO MAKE SURE THE SENSOR WAS PROPERLY SET. CAM SENSOR TOOL LED WOULD NOT LIGHT UP WHEN TRYING TO SET. NOT SURE IF THAT IS THE FAULT OF THE TOOL OR THE SENSOR. TOOL WAS BRAND NEW OUT OF THE PACKAGE.

THAT ALL BEING SAID, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE AND OR HELP AS TO WHAT MY NEXT STEPS SHOULD BE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN A LONG AND FRUSTRATING ROAD RESTORING HER AND I KNOW I'M IN THE HOME STRETCH. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!!!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS.

Some reason to post in several forums???
How about turning off the caps lock... No need to yell.

I deleted the other duplicate threads in the other forums to eliminate confusion.

You have a cranks but doesn't start issue. So if you have compression you don't have spark and or fuel. Test for fuel pressure/pulse width, and spark. Once you find out which ones you don't have report back.

I apologize. I posted in several forums so I would greater my chances of someone reading my post and offering help. I also did it to get multiple opinions from several different people. I know that people can be partial to certain sections of the forum. The caps lock was on because I posted while at work were my terminal has to be that way, everything we write needs to be in caps, so I wasn't shouting, even though I know people who write or text view it that way. Which by the way is just ridiculous. It simply means the letters are capital. I guess you felt deleting the posts was necessary, I don't know why, but I'm more than likely missing something or misunderstanding. Again my apologies. As far as fuel and spark is concerned I for sure have good fuel and at one time spark because it turned over and drove and purred as it should. This was a quality build. I will recheck to make sure I'm getting spark but I'm pretty sure I am. I was hoping someone could make sense of the codes so I knew exactly where to look, or what was suspect. Thanks for your help. I will verify what's up with spark and report back as soon as I can. Definitely have fuel though. Ltr.

Your post did not include basic, vital information to help troubleshoot your issue?

Do you have spark and fuel pressure?

Cam sensor and crank sensor signal must be present at the coil pack for spark and fuel, and the cam signal must be firing at the right time.

It is simple to see if the cam sensor tool is working, remove the cap from the sensor and the light should come on then when plugged into the cap.

Yes I have fuel pressure, it's right where it needs to be. The timing is perfect. Cam sensor tool issue was when adjusting the cam sensor, the tool should light up when it's in the right spot, but that never happened. Just to clarify, I have great fuel pressure, and good spark. I know the codes from the scan are very general in their description of the problem and its extra hard to diagnose something via the Internet. I was just looking for the gamut of things that need to be checked now that I know what codes are being thrown. I think I just need to bring it to a tech and fork over more cash that I don't have. This car is long turned into a nightmare! I expected a rough go of it before I started and breaking the bank as well but I've long lost my patients now as we'll as my shirt with this thing. I've got 26 k into it with more to go now and I'm lucky if its worth 20! The next bit I buy for it is a block of c4! And a box of tissues for myself.

Unless your cam setting tool is not working, this does not make sense?

You must have a cam signal to the module for injector pulse, so is the tool not working or no cam signal?

If you have spark, spray some starting fluid into the intake via a vacuum line and try starting it to verify if fuel delivery is the issue?

That makes sense. The tool is brand new and should be receiving a signal. I was thinking of replacing the sensor because it is old and seeing if that works. And I have sprayed the intake and it wants to start even more but yet and still doesn't start. ???

If it is trying to start when you sprayed starting fluid and you hear popping/firing, your injectors are not pulsing.

Like I said, you need a cam signal at the module/coil pack to get the injectors to work.

You should be able to use the OBD scan tool to determine if you have a cam signal at the multi-pin connector going into the module under the coil pack?

Could be a bad cam sensor cap, or a broken wire between the sensor and module? You should also have a reference voltage at the cam sensor harness connector with the key in the on position.

Sweet, thank you so much bro! I also bought that cam sensor phony signal job, it's called a cam fix module. If there are any issues with the sensor than it should surely start with that thingy. I will also check with the obd again and look further into that signal. I will report back soon with results. Hopefully positive ones. Thanks again. I know it's something I haven't replaced, and ive replaced just about everything under the hood now. Talk to you soon.
