Keys Stuck In Ignition

I finally got everything back together , took a small drive to make sure everything works... I pulled back into the garage and shut it off and tried to pull the keys out . This has happened before and usually wiggly giggly of the shifter works but it didnt today.. at least its locked up in the garage any ideas would be appreciated

Try this, reach down at the base of the steering wheel, there is a collar, this collar is what is used on column shifted cars and rotates when you shift gears. Rotate the collar all the way to the left (counter clockwise) and see if your keys will come out. The mechanism will wear over time and this does happen with age.

Patrick is exactly right. Sounds like you had the transmission out maybe?? Check out the shifter linkage, If it looks good (no tweakage) then there's an adjustment on it that should help.

I have also had it happen before to me after I installed a transmission back in and it was the shifter linkage was off a bit. Turn the column and see if the key will come out then.

turned the column and turned the key and it came out.... thanks guys... now I can start installing the alky kit :biggrin:
