Comp Turbo CTRX Turbos, Let's Chat

How expensive are these, no pricing on their website?

The direct fit Ford and Subaru I'm seeing is looking like $1700 which is great if true.

You a T4 or V Band?
Are you abandoning your cool Garrett setup or just chatting about this stuff? lol

After all the headaches and $ to go Garrett G30 series I won't be jumping the turbo pond yet.

Just checking out what's new out there and chatting with those who might use it, no surprise Mr.Spool is already running it. LOL
Also get this on our boards so we are aware of exists, keep up with the times and the V8s and Imports can check out my new match painted gas tank. LOL

The Garret G30-770 is actually a similar power rating as the Comp CTRX 58/58 but the Garrett is 58/55 so Garrett might have some edge in wheel tech that's not hubless.

Sounds like this Hubless patent has been a thing of discussion for 5 years, not sure if that means Garrett etc can go this route too but there's more to this side alone.

Boy does this story get interesting, Apex turbo has the patent.

Says Ryan Salenbien is the inventor
Filed: May 16, 2019
Date of Patent: Feb 9, 2021

Then looks like he assigned it to Apex
Filed: Mar 1, 2021
Date of Patent: Mar 7, 2023

When looking at the Apex turbo it's clearly the bullet nose compressor without a nut either. Both seem like nice evolutions and maybe Apex will have an offering.

Apex has a variety of different sizes as well
Like I said
It's never been a better time to be in turboland 😉

there is 0 doubt mm for mm the hubless is the highest flowing
But like I said
The ctr compressor wheel is not going anywhere
Its fairly new and rocks.
But the hubless is wild
comps 6871 triple bb is rated 1250hp and will spool like a 64bb😎

Mr.Spool, care to comment on the OILESS aspect and why you went 3BB vs it?

To help those just reading our posts..

You can get the Comp CTRX Hubless, full blade wheels in....
Oilless/Waterless (turbo exposed to air)
Oilless (needs water, street strip cars)
Triple BB (needs oil of course)
Journal Bearing

Oiless
It's a basically a grease
That needs to be changed like oil
I have more than one of these cars so
When I change engine oil the turbo is good as well.
Just 1 less step to me.
And I can easily get oil access to the turbo
If my turbo or turbos where in a tough place say rear mount I would go oiless.
As far as triple bbb
Speaks for itself everything lites up faster so air is moved sooner and there is more of it.
So the engine power tuning window opens up so ramps can be setup differently
Things like converter stall dumps suspension tuning can all change.
So it's a win win especially on a footbrake car or a car that moves from surface to surface while racing.
The fun factor on a street driver is much greater.

The hubless compressors at Comp will be available..."at the earliest, best possible timeline in Early-February 2024. Pricing will be available a few days before taking orders." The improved efficiency of the hubless innovation offers better performance within class limits on turbo size, and other benefits: faster transient response, lower air temps...

s this story get interesting, Apex turbo has the patent.
Actually they have their own patent for their style hubless.
Found out comp has a different design hubless basically they are not the same.
Hubless has been around alot longer than most know so not sure how apex even got a patent
But.....
Comp ctrx is an all new design and didnt require a patent as the hubless designs are different in how the shafts are introduced to the other side of the turbo.

Its 6 to 8 weeks out on hubless

Also I have had alot of people wish me to spec turbos
So for those that wish to have me spec turbos
I can get better than retail pricing and navigate the sizes for builds.

Ah thanks for clearing that up, so Comp has their own Hubless design.

There's a juicy episode of...
Turbos Of Our Lives
And the Apex patent story for Salenbien, WTH, this guy might be one of those Etch A Sketch guys. I'll just let that all slide 🛝 away, not going Apex anyways.

what's juicer 🙂
The fact that comp has triple bbb and has the actual patent and owns the triple bbb concept
And apex has a triple bb setup on their turbos now
And the 2 companys are aware of each other but share no parts.
They are 2 different turbos with the hubless connecting to the turbine side differently so it's not a patent violation as they have the patent for the way hubless wheel connects
But....
The triple bbb now that's going to be interesting 😉

The juicy part isn't Comp, it's Salebien and his patent.

If Comp has their own thing then great, even better to not get any wheel drama.

Apex has odd wheel sizes and not a lot of offerings where comp is similar to PTE offerings but more power per wheel size.

Amen! I wish santa would bring me a 6871 triple bb
