Oily mess
Kinda hard to believe that you'd oil down as bad as you have due to stem seals going away. You'd have to have really bad guides along with pooched seals to allow a lot of indirect cyl. head oil down to the combustion chamber. Is the inside of the EGR tower the source of your intake...
Lite Pins
Re: the question on lite weight pins ... if you mean the Ti wrist pins offered in the J&E catalogue ... they told me "Not recommended because price, availability and shear qualities were not favourable" So I'm staying with the standard pins that came with the 522f pistons. FWIW.
Crank
IMHOP ... the casting that separates the rod ends on the split crank pins is pretty thin now and it is all that separates the rods on the journals. Take it away and whats to stop the rods from colliding with each other ?? Furthermore, altring any of the hydraulic rolled fillet at each...
tension eeter
Search this site or a similarly named one for info on which aftermarket chains eat tensioners. I recall that one specific double roller was hard on tensioner and was recommended that tensioner be eliminated with that chain. Real downside is now ya got nasty crud from the demo'd...
no pressr
Not wantin to be too simple here, but did the engine get hot tanked at rebuild ... can there be an obstruction in the p/u screen, tube or passage in the block, is the p/u tube sealed and sseated tight to the pan rail ? Any junk in the front timcvr passages ? and did you pack the pump...
Crank Funerals
To continue the autopsy thread ... I'd like to know about them before they passed away.
were any of them magnafluxed before assembly
were any of them treated to a die grinder operation to remove casting risers
any of 'em nitrided or shot peened
did they all roll easily on the...
MA Head Gask.
My local parts guy is stumped on this one (so am I). The S1 41 block is drilled/taped with the 14 bolt S2 pattern ... the block deck is fitted with a steel wire insert around each bore. The old gaskets are a FelPro #1026, and they worked fine (held 30 lbs boost a few times)...
4boltcaps
Im meeting with the machinist before Friday, to scope out the block. I think with a little trick close tolerance milling, I can keep the stock oil p/u at the #2 on the pan rail .. just by cutting a small radiius on the corresponding edge of the splayed 4 bolt cap. Will know for sure...
Has anyone tried making a S1 bottom end more like a S2 ?
That is to say, milling the S1 block to accept 4 bolt main caps at#2 and#3mains (just like a S2). The obstacles that I see here are the oil pick-up hole in the block at the #2 main and the dipstick hole into the side of the block at the...
Turbo
I have a Turbonetics "Cheetah" originaly designated as T04-H3 ... It pumped enuf air thro. a FM Icooler to make over 550hp at bout 4500 rpm on green top injectors at 25lbs boost. I ran it with an Art Carr 9" TC and made lost of low 12 sec. runs. Never got the right tune up to go quicker...
Pump re and re
Be sure to dope up the bolts that fasten the pump to FC. Some of them go into coolant jackets .... so to be sure dope em all. My last pump nearly needed c4 to get it separated from the FC ... Guess I over did it a bit with the gasket goop.
Torque
I have one spec. saying studs @70ft/lbs and intake bolts @ 25-30 ft/lbs .. both with lube on threads. Would seem that with the number of studs + torque value holding down yer GN1 heads, the intake could be done last.
Jigsaw puzl
I've had decent results going to Buick/GM dealer and having the parts guy print pages of data from their shop software. Exploded engine views with numbered parts (2) and pages of corresponding part numbers that relate to GM part numbers. If you dont have any luck at yer dealer, I...
