Those that I know of:

1) stock w/ 'big' neck
2) Mease 13 -row
3) ATR air/liquid

What are the faster cars running? I saw one guy with a 'Buza' 17-row in his sig. line. I've never heard of that one. I don't want to go to a FM IC and I don't want ground clearance issues.....see, I'm not asking for much;) .

I'm leaning towards having Mease put a big neck on my stock TTA core. Should I 'butcher' the original IC or just put a big neck GN IC on and save the stock one? The only thing is that I've heard the TTA and GNX IC's are slightly better at cooling than the stock GN piece. Any truth to this?

I have an ATR liquid/Air but I don't think they make them any more in fact when I called them to ask if I could get some part numbers from them the lady told me they don't make one I had to send a pic to prove her
wrong...

oh yeah back to the intercooler. I like it. Haven't had a hot summer here in Arizona yet but I am sure it will be fine.

Stock IC will probably out do anything your probably going to do.

When you post an 11.20 at 125 timeslip..start looking for an intercooler.

Rob C had a bone stock TTA IC 132 mph..

One more Dequick..he made them at one time for our cars.

You just cant get air through it becuase of our cars frontal design.

Do your heads,cam,turbo,injectors..tranny..See what it runs..leave the IC for last.

I got 94 mph in the 1/8 last nite..man if I did heads,intake,70 mmTB, and cam..wonder what my car would run..humm :D

Ya bought slicks yet? Your gonna need them :)

FYI

Keith Mease has a GNX intercooler with a bigmouth and a TTA with a bigmouth, both ready to ship now.

He priced the TTA intercooler with a big mouth at $350 shipped....

Fairly reasonable I thought.

Thanks for the tip.:D

1KWIK6, Razor has persuaded me that I do not need another or tweaked intercooler for a looong time ;)

I was reading that the TTA had the GNX intercooler, which is two inches taller than the GN's intercooler with some kind of better fin/core design.

Thanks Razor :)

IC, double roller timing chains, Terry Houston Downpipes, bigger TB,cam,etc..lot of things ya just dont need to go low 12's.

If I lived in Arizona, I would consider a bigger IC..if my MAT intake temps justified it.

Glad to be of assistance :)

Remember this..stock shortblock is good up to 600 HP assumming no detonation...That translates to max 480-510 RWHP assuming 15-18 percent losses..do the math and you'll get your ideas. Some say 700 on a stock short block..I dunno..and dunno for how long. Above numbers are my own opinion and dont reflect :)

Hence why a TE44,TE60,PT51 make excellent choice of turbo's for our cars..

I'm out of airflow in mine..I know where my limits are...but thats ok..almost two years running at the track..zero failures.

Hope this helps picking out your turbo and injectors..If you build a stronger bottom end..then this changes the equation.

So what good is a turbo that can flow enough to make 800 HP when your bottom end cant handle it. ;)

I went 11.30 @123 with the stock intercooler w stock motor,That's about where you'd want to start changing IC's

Crissafulli had a 17 row Mark Jackson IC

There's probably not many DeQuick's Intercoolers running around.

What you need to do if you want to make one is have 20 row style necks put on a 17 or 15 row intercooler. That's what I have ,Built by Buza,he hasn't done one since.

when you get to the density ratio part you can change the outlet temp to be representitive of an intercooled set up. Take about 70% of the diff between the inlet and out let temps and subtract that from the outlet temp. This would represent a 70% efficient IC. Mess around with other eficiency percentages and you'll see real quick that an intercooler up grade can make some good gains. If you go through those calculations you will see that the higher the boost, the bigger the gain(the air is hotter). If you want to see some thing really cool, change te outlet temp to 20 degrees cooler than the inlet temp(stuff like this is possible with a liquid IC set up). Also keep in mind if you go looking for an IC upgrade that cooling air flow across the core directly effects the IC efficiency. I tried a stretch in my TTA (one made for a GN) and it was so close to the ground that I could not run the scoop. My up pipe would be really hot after a run. I would have 97 mph in the 1/8th and only 119 in the quarter, I dont have a lock up converter but I think I was loosing mph because of heat soaking my IC before the run was over. Anyway I'm putting in a hardcore Liquid set up in my car now that will prob flow and cool enough air for a stage motored car. This should mean some cool inlet temps for my stock long block motor.

p.s: change your valve springs, there old and weak(if original). That has to be the best performance inhancer for the dollar out there.

Thanks for all of the replies. I will probably just go with a stock IC w/ Dutt. neck for now.

---Badd Azz TTA--- do you have any contact info for Buza??

A Question

DC Tech says that flow bench tests reveal a stock GN intercooler will typically flow 208 cubic inches and 251 with a big neck (I assume that is cubic inches per second, but they do not say on their website).

My question is: How much does a stock GNX/TTA intercooler flow....And, how much of a change does a big neck make for the GNX/TTA intercooler? Our intercooler should flow more than a stock GN, right?

Keith Mease reports that he can:

flush intercooler, stock neck removal, fin straightening, neck install, final flush and pressure test, repaint for $164.95 parts and labor. plus shipping

That is more for the dollar than his competetion. 1KWIK6, If I was buying a used TTA intercooler I would ship directly to Keith Mease and have him put that big neck on there and then send it to me. Would save some time and shipping cost. :)

Lee,

Thanks for the advice! I have never seen flow figures on a GN VS TTA IC. I would assume that they flow very similar numbers. I was told that the primary difference was that the TTA IC had more external cooling fins per square inch. That would have no impact on the flow. Once again, I'm assuming that they are very close (if not identical) in flow.

James, I asked Rob Crissafulli that question directly on the TTA list a couple months ago, the answer was 100% bone stock TTA IC.. He probably owned a Mark Jackson..hell as much work and stuff he does, nothing would suprise me. But the question was directly..what was the fastest someone had gone with a bone stock TTA IC..I figured 126-128..His 132 reply floored me.

I wont argue that it cant hurt..but a lot of cant hurts get put on our cars with zero improvement. That 132 number was run in a "class car" years ago for the NMCA . I bet there is more air heated by the turbo than the IC. Bigger turbo will flow cooler air..as well as having your engine breathe better..to run lower boost numbers and make the same power.

I also know A lot of people have done the big necks with zero gain...becuase theyre combinations just didnt benefit from it.

How many GN's ya seen run 12-13's with front mounts ;)

Well I think I know what I'm doing with my TTA intercooler :D Plus there won't be shipping costs since my family lives close to where his shop is :D

stock intercooler upgrade

What is his number, and address. I am interested in an intercooler upgrade for my tta as well! Any information would be greatly appreciated. TTANUT

Rob's running the Mark Jackson on the Festival right now as a daily driver. Other than the pipes being a little shorter, you'd never notice. Looks like stock from below. I don't think he's running a sway bar though.

I've run 121 so far with the stock intercooler with the screen still in place. Just need to learn to launch....

Mease Performance #: 1-609-518-8917 ask for Keith.
He's a nice guy to deal with. I ordered a big neck TTA I/C and one of his new custom units for my GN.
