hello all, i was wondering if there would be any interest in a buick based dyno day? my shop has a dynojet thats capable of 2000 hp, and i figured if we can get enough people here to go, then i can get the ball rolling on setting up a small event for us buick boys(and girls).

so how bout it? any interest?

Post some info of the location and prices and if you need solid commitments.
I will discuss with the Houston Buick Club leadership.
Should be FUN  . . . for those that have running cars. ;)

That sounds pretty cool. When and where would this take place?

I can bring my black car, errr, i mean sedan ;) The GN is out for the count right now but i would like to show up. Where, when, and how much?

I think we should have a good turnout, but need place/time/cost/etc info.

I will put it up for vote and see if we can do some a few special things (I have some ideas) for Houston Buick Club Members.

location is Powerfab automotive
10541 FM 1960 Rd West
Suite 703, Houston, TX 77070

prices are gonna start around 40 for 2 pulls...but naturally if we cant get a clean pull or you wanna try another tune "setting" we can do more for no extra charge

were thinking that febuary 5th would be a good saturday cause our calander is clear, but a solid date is still in the works

Thanks!
Some of the cars "may be" running by that date. . . LOL!!
Let me know when you firm up the date so we can adequately plan the event.

my buick isnt in any of those pictures... but im also about making power more than being pretty ;)

I would be interested. I'm in the area, live in Katy. I've got an 87 GN that runs good, has some aftermarket stuff, but I have never had it on a dyno and really had it dialed in. I need someone who knows what they are doing with these cars and can help me optimize it's potential.

what all have you done to the GN? any quarter mile times? you could use the dyno day for baseline pulls and then (since there will be a few buick guys around at any given point) we could give you pointers on what modifications to make next.

a full on tuning session usually will take a hour or so to really dial in a combination for wot throttle so it might be tough to get it done on a dyno day. but we could always schedule you a personal dyno tuning session for the day after or somthing

It's fairly stock with mostly bolt on's. Turbo Tweak chip for alky injection, has a Razors alky injection kit, big mouth cold air intake, Hooker cat back 2 1/2 exhaust, RJC power plate, RJC boost controller, adjustable wastegate, Scanmaster, 23 Row CAS V4 intercooler. Still running a stock MAF, turbo, and down pipe. Has a right rear airbag, and Nitto drag radials on the back. I have never had it down the quarter mile since i've owned it, less than a year now. The prior owner ran a 13.02 with a bad 60ft time, but that was a long time ago prior to some of the upgrades. The MPH looks like what most 12.7-12.8 GN's are running. Dialed in it should go well into the 12's now I would guess. It's set at about 23psi boost right now. In the near future, I'm looking at going with a 3" downpipe, electric exhaust cutout and y pipe, and a set of poly motor mounts to make sure I'm not getting any false knock from there. I am mostly paranoid about knock and having any crazy issues there. I would like someone who knows what they are doing to help me tune it on the dyno and make sure all is good before I really go to hammering on it.

What do you think? What do you guys charge to do a full tuning session on the dyno?

Thanks.

our typical tuning dyno sessions start around 450, but looking thorough your mods list i dont see any adjustability for fuel or spark (like a maf translator or an adjustable fuel regulator, or a good fuel pump) and those items are the first things that i would shoot for. if we cant adjust fuel or spark, then we would most def. be leaving HP on the table

you've got the scan master which is good, but have you ever verifyed the condition of your knock sensor and esc box? has the knock count ever registered? on all my cars i like to have an in dash wideband in genneral too, it makes changes to a tune much easier to see.

needless to say, when you get strapped down, we will be putting a wideband on the tailpipe. so any dyno pulls will also show your afr reading too

we can tune it, but it will need some adjustability like a translator plus or somthing like it

It does have a walbro fuel pump, and adjustable accufab regulator. The Turbo Tweak chip is adjustable +- 10% for WOT fuel. Also base timing is 21 and 19 degrees for 1 and 2 gears, and 3rd and 4th gears, but fully adjustable. I think it's set at about 24 or 25 degrees in 1st and 2nd, and around 21 in 3rd and 4th now. I would have to look at my notes to see exactly. Im assuming the knock sensor works fine, I have seen some knock retard on the scanmaster before. Not common, but I have seen it. Is is necessary to run a translator? I know a lot of guys have gone to it when the stock MAF craps out, but I have a good OEM spare as well. I know the stock MAF maxes out at 255 and gets there quick. What would be the tuning advantages vs the stock MAF?

Thanks

well besides the fact that a stock mass air flow is a huge restriction for the turbo to suck through, you said it right, it also has a ceiling for airflow that can be registered, which can be tough to tune on when you surpass that 255 ceiling

Would you recommend the 3" Impala SS or the 3 1/2" LS1 MAF sensor with the translator?

for a stock turbo id recommend just the lt1 mass air flow. so i take it you'll be out at Powerfab for the dyno day then? ive got to make a few small changes to my type-T before febuary
