Won't shift out of first gear...Help!

My buddy has an 87 Gn we just put a motor, harness, tranny, etc into and the car will not shift out of first gear at all. It is at a local machine shop at the moment, so that is really all the details I have. Does anyone know what could be wrong or where to start on a car that will not shift out of first? TIA...Mark

Drop the pan and the shift governor cover as it sounds like the spring might have popped out of place.

Or... Tv valve is stuck or TV is not adjusted right or TV cable is pinched open or govenor spring and or govenor has an issue.
