I have two rears to choose from for the regal in my signature. I'm wondering what one I should use if the car is going to be my daily driver with track days mixed in. Both rears are 8.5's, the difference is one has 4.11's and the other has 3.73 range. What would be my best option. Any one with 4.11's have any problems and dumb question but how bad was it on gas.

Buy a set of 3:42 gears and call it a day. I think some have done ok with 3:73 but 3:42 are best.

If you want a choice between the two, 3:73s then

These cars were designed for the 3.42 gears they have you wont pick up a thinexcept RPMS going to a 3.73. Stick with what works

i prefer the 4.11 gear over the 3.73's.my car et'd better and required less boost to launch.cruising rpms were a couple hundred and it went down the highway fine.gears are torque, and torque is what moves our gn's,you can do it on high cylinder pressure and or drivetrain efficiency.

Use the 3:73's,with the 4:11's your car will only have a top speed of 90mph!..turbo cars need gear to pull on. My 3:50 gears with 28" tall tire with 9" art carr 3500 shortend my top end to 113mph (Half Track) I now have 3:20's..an the car pulls all the way to 150mph!!! 8^)

Stay away from the 4:11's especially on a daily driver. Been there done that. I'm running 3:73's with 255-60-15's on my GN. Works very well.

Turbo like to GRUNT. Low aspect ratio is better. I ran 3.73 and didn't like it. If you have 3.73, run a 30" tall tire and make up for it. Read what most guys are saying. 3.42 works the best. Even 3.23 if you have the power.

gears

MY '72 GS, 350 Muncie M-21 came with 308's. In 1982 I was talked into 410 gears. The car launched great and would get to 65 in no time. After that, it was all high engine rpm. As far as a highway traveler, forget it! Take the advice from other's and stick with what GM put in the GN: 342's. I would concentrate on delivering more muscle to the gears.

turbo Buicks like the load of the 3.42 gears....the TTA cars has 3.23 gears too

it depends on where you want to cruise at. 2300 rpm in a buick with a 200r4, 28 inch tire and a 4.10 gear is 70 mph,3.73 is 76mph,not much difference.2400rpm is 72.7mph=4.10 and 3.73 is 79.9mph,the 3.42 is 87mph. as far as performance,i've run 3.23,3.42,370,410,and a 4.56 rear in a gn on 26,28,and 29.6 inch tall tires.car always drops et with the more aggresive gear and backhalfs the same, full weight gn that drives to the track and doesn't skip the highway.

rear ends

If i do remember i read some were that Don Cruz runs a 390 gear in is stage II car, that must say some thing
