What do I Have?

Made a good deal on that one!! But.... Move that boost controller out under the hood within a few feet of the turbo. Just cut the line to a length where you can mount that thing somewere safe. It doesn't really need to be inside the driver's compartment.

And most importantly get a shroud on that intercooler, because all it's doing now is "afterheating"!!! sucking all that hot radiator air through it.

Oh ya, unless you're intimately familiar with getting that OTC2000 into "road mode" don't use it, unplug it. If you drive and are not in road mode you could badly hurt the motor.

You need to buy a scanmaster first off. BEST $250 you will spend!! This I Promise you!!!
Also do lots of reading at Vortex Buicks
Then after that start with Turbo Regal Web Site. That will keep you busy for a good while.
Looks like you made a good deal. Now, get ready to spend another $1500 in tuning parts before any Go Fast parts!

Guys, he has an OTC monitor 2000 right in the pictures. Why do you insist that he has to buy a scanmaster? If he had no scan tool I could see it, but that scan tool he has there is just fine. That is what I used up until 2009 when I switched to a fast. I have never owned a scanmaster.

There's a reason I run a scanmaster, and my OTC 4000E is packed away.

You are talking about a 4000 & this guy has a 2000. There is no reason this guy needs to spend $250 on a scanner, when he has one right there. If you are going to come here & say there is a reason why YOU need a scanmaster over an OTC monitor why not explain?

There are a LOT of knowledgeable buick guys in oklahoma. Get in touch with a few of them, bring it to a weekend gathering, or wait until the buick vs. ford in noble. Don't be afraid to drive it but don't hammer on it until you get familiar with what the car needs to survive at wide open throttle. Looks like a good deal, no way to know true mileage but condition is way more important anyway. Be prepared to go broke working on it.

I'd be happy to help you out next time i'm down there but it might be awhile. That hard rock casino/hotel is a damn fun weekend getaway but it ain't the cheapest!

First off, I didn't say he "needed" a scanmaster over and above his OTC2000. I merely said the scanmaster has several advantages over the OTC(of any kind), and had you ever owned one, you would better understand the advantages.

I was merely trying to point out that as a new owner, he needs to be carefull with the operation of the OTC

Primary of which is operability. The OTC's are not user friendly at all, and IF the OTC owner is not familiar with getting the OTC truelly into road mode, then engine damage can be the result.

Next, is speed of data recovery. The scanmaster when used with modern day chips has a much faster data rate (approaching 3 frames per second). Whereas the OTC's best data rate is 1.5 seconds per frame. (Notice I did not say 1.5 frames per second).

Next, is size/weight.

Can the OTC capture and hold highest knock retard or lowest O2 during a run? Nope, gotta search the data stream to find them. Can the OTC show you at what mph they occured? Nope, gotta search and correlate on your own.

Just a few things.

But you're right, he doesn't need a scanmaster because he has an OTC (assuming he knows how to use it). But as stated above, the scanmaster has a number of advantages.

I also noticed in one of your other posts that you were looking for a stock gauge cluster.

DO NOT PUT THE STOCK SPEEDOMETER BACK IN IT!

Those gauges you have are a very nice (and very expensive) upgrade. Leave them there. Someone spent an ass load of money to put those in there.

Going off of memory alone, isn't the OTC2000 set in road mode when you power it up? You have to put it in Field Service if desired...

I don't recall any thing special on the 2000 other than pressing a few digits, like 1 for gm, 2 for buick, 2 for fuel inj & vin 7 for engine. THESE MAY NOT BE THE RIGHT NUMBERS, but it will scroll across the screen & ask you. Then you just have to select the corresponding number for the readings to monitor. For this you will need a book, but I believe mode 4 was o2 readings. The scanmaster is better in that you can monitor o2 & knock at the same time & it will record lowest/highest readings. But you can do the same thing with the 2000. The gn/t-type website probably has a list of the functions.

The dash is one of the good ones from years ago company was first called quality engineering out of Michigan later changed their name to Advance Vehicle Concepts...which is the logo on your lense in the lower rite corner.

Someone blasted the paint off your intercooler which is basically useless until you get a scoop installed to channel the air to it.

I have no idea what the pod thing is in the one line going to the AC behind the radiator overflow bottle.

Appears boost is controlled inside the car rather than having wastegate solenoid on passenger valve cover bolt. If you are not familar with these cars you want to make sure boost levels are within recommended specs to avoid blowing a head gasket.

We sell a reproduction intercooler shroud....kirbanperformance.com

Just my thoughts on what I saw in the photos.

Dennis, i believe that pod could be an inline filter on the line going into the evaporator core. Used to catch trash from the compressor should it lock up. I have only heard about them and i thought they were suppose to install pre- condenser. Charlie would know...

You are one lucky SOB getting such a deal on a car like this IMO! Having $5600 into a car like this, you
A) Got yourself an awesome ride for way less than a lot of us spent getting into GNs
B) Have a great investment you can easily make several grand on should you decide to resell.

Only other thing I can see that you need is an '87 grille! ;)
