Stock 87 turbo end play

Is a lot of end play common/normal on higher mileage stock 86-7 turbos, and what could be a worst case, .060-.080:eek: and still re buildable? Can compressor/turbine shaft assemblies and housings possibly show no wear with that much play? Need to take shaft assembly and housings apart on a used 87 turbo that doesn't look worn at blades/ housings to see, just wondering if they can be left undamaged by chance with that much play?

If all the same, a stock 86-7 turbo with approx. .060 end play will most likely have compressor wheel contact with compressor housing, this one did, looked ok just looking at turbine/compressor blades but cant' really tell till turbo is disassembled. Probably beyond a rebuild, maybe good as a core.

Good learning experience taking one apart, at this point IMO, it seems to be a good idea to take any used stock turbo you buy apart and inspect, clean, and possibly replace bushings/thrust bearing for assurance, before using. Even if everything seems tight on the outside, sure looks like oil can cake up inside of center housing rotating assembly where you can't see from external inspection.
