Shock Removal

We are having a problem with removing the front shocks, they are the originals. The nut at the top of the rod is rusted on there and cannot be removed, when we try to remove it, the rod that is part of the shock turns. We tried wD 40, heating it, and cutting the rod. Any suggestions?

Tried and true method. Forget trying to remove the nut - its rusted on.

Get a long 1/2" drive extension bar, and get a 1/2" drive impact deep socket if you have one, otherwise use your regular deep socket.

Attach the socket to the extension, and place on the rusted nut. Now, *bend* nut/shock-absorber-shaft as far as you can one way, then back the other way. Rock it back and forth till it yields. It won't take too long.

To keep the rod from moving, what I like to do is. Take what ever wrench the nut is and put it on the nut. Then take the right size allen wrench to the top of the rod and hold that still while you turn the wrench. The allen wrench is what will keep the rod still while you can break the nut loose. Hope this helps.
