Did you only blow a head gasket? No water in the oil or anything? Then I would just change the head gasket. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are or how many tools you have, but it's a weekend's worth of work and about $100 in parts (including oil)...
Where are you located? Any ties with the military or DOD job? The auto hobby shops have everything you would need to do the job if you don't already have it.
