Power steering noise

Hello,
i got my 87' Regal what was sleeping for more than 10 years.
Now most runs very good, but i have problems with the steering pump / gearbox.
When i got the car, the noise was terrible and the fluid seemed very dirty.
We changed the fluid with a common fluid used here in germany for Audi/VWs.
The noise was 90% better, but you can still hear it while steering. When it gets warm after 15min you may hear it while ideling and not steering and louder while steering.
Something is wrong.
There is no foam visible, seems to be without air.
We just took off the fluid back tube and changed it by filling the reservoir, and the back tube in a bottle... The color changed to red, the new fluid. Just half litre more and stopped.
Filled to right level.

I ordered the correct fluid for this car, but i do not believe it gets better.

What do you think i have to do now?

Cheers from Germany,
Olli

Wrong viscosity fluid will cause this type of situation. The fluid for the GM steering is thicker than what you get for the German cars. In a pinch you can use 80/90 gear lube which is thicker and will do fine until it gets below 50 degrees F.

Great info, i'am hopefull again to stay with the old steering pump / gearbox.
I ordered Oil for GM 1050017; Ravenol PSF-Y
Do you think, i should go with it?

it also has the specs:
- Chrysler 05098158A, MS-5931, MS-9933, 04883077
- HONDA 08206-9002, 08285-P99-01Z-T1
- GM 9985010, 89020661, 1050017

Not sure of the GM number but try it. It can't do any worse than what you have. Worst case, you'll need a new pump.
