My 2002 2.2L Pontiac Grand am has a rattle under the car. I was hoping it was just a heat sheild, but after getting under the car, I found the rattle to the catalytic converter. I would like to remove the converter and replace it with a straight pipe.

Does anyone have experience with these 02 simulators? Do they work?

I also found this one, but it's more expensive:

Thoughts?

I can tell you we produced and sold tens of thousands of them...until the EPA caught up with us and made us stop selling them. And had to recall them as well. We invented the O2Sim, so we were at the top of the food chain. Bad experience...won't happen with us again. The companies who are selling them today run the risk of being ferrertted out by the EPA.

I'd recommend you replace the cat instead.

I'm in a tight spot. Cats cost $$$, and the car is 11 years old w/140,000 miles. I guess I will just have to live with the CEL on.

Are you sure it is the cat that is setting the cel? What code is it throwing? Could be something else.

Cats really aren't that expensive but the labor/markup is another story. Search around on the net. You might be able to find a suitable universal unit.

I'd try to pull it gut it and put it back on. Save the contents as it is precious metal and worth a bit of change.

If the CEL is a COT, ["converter over temp"] code, I'd do what's suggested....Empty it.
