New Engine Run-in Procedure

Just wanted to check on a first time start if it is recommended to run the engine at roughly 1500-2000 rpm for 15 min. (steady) to break the cam in? Is it to be done with the engine unloaded as opposed to putting in drive and using converter to add load?
Recommendations please.

Break in

Do not break the cam in with it in Drive. Your tranny temps will sky rocket. Run it in Neutral. The idea is to keep oil splashing on the cam for the first few moments the cam is breaking in....:)

here's some things:
-Prolonged cranking can wipe a new cam. Have the engine timed and primed, ready to fire with minimal cranking.
-Coat lifters & cam liberally with a moly lubricant designed for new cams.
-Use valve springs with low tension if possible.
-Run engine ~ 2500, in neutral, no load, for about 15 minutes.

As posted above, except I've always run it @ 2500 for 20 minutes, then varied the rpms between 1500 and 3000 for the next 10 minutes, all in Park. Immediately change your oil and filter. 20 years and never a failure. Good luck,
Jim
