Smaller port on back of compressor if you are using the newer style compressor. Use press the insert into the line block until it bottoms out. Put the proper seal on first

Ding! Finally, it's soaked into my feeble brain...
The smaller diameter part of the insert is right at .625, as is the ID of the hard line. The step is what determines the press distance.
When you say smaller port, you are referring to the diameter of the washer counter bore, correct??

AIRC, the smaller port is closer to the outside of the compressor body.

• I just purchased a new repro a/c line and new compressor 68225 that came with no detailed instructions or inserts and just four washers. I am confused after reading this thread what do I need to install this compressor and line thanks for help

Green and yellow seals and mount em on the hose end pilots. Make sure they fit flat in the suction and discharge ports before you tighten up the hose block bolt.
