Minimum Idle Speed

My '84 GN had the common popping, spitting, etc. that is
common to this forum. Finally, I got some sense, went back
to basics, and set my Minimum Idle Speed (right from the
Chassis Manual--p. 6E3-183). After setting the MIS, you must
reset the TPS. (My TPS was set at .42 BEFORE this procedure,
and after this procedure it was at .58!!!) Then I reset the TPS and
the motor idles like a kitten. Try this--you might be surprised!!!

STEPS

1. Engine should be at normal operating temperature.
2. With IAC motor connected, ground the diagnostic terminal.
3. Turn on ignition, do not start engine. WAIT 30 SECONDS--
disconnet IAC electrical connection.
4. Remove ground from diagnostic terminal, and start engine.
5. Adjust idle set screw to 500 + or - 50 rpm in Drive.
6. Turn ignition off, reconnect IAC electrical connector.
7. Adjust TPS sensor to .40 + or -.05 volts. Secure sensor.
8. Start engine and inspect for proper idle.

Voila!! You will probably find that your TPS setting before this
procedure was inaccurate. I did.
