I have heard that Methanol is corrosive to aluminum but how about Isopropyl Alcohol also know as rubbing alcohol?? I run a 50/50 mix of distilled water and Isopropyl 90 and would love to run one of our aluminum reservoirs we are now selling. Anyone know if this watered down mixture would be safe to use?

Well that's interesting. Isopropyl has a B rating and Methanol has an A rating which is excellent as far as compatibility.

Guess I will do a little experiment, going to submerge some scrap aluminum in a can of isopropyl alky and see what happens.

Nothing will happen, neither isopropyl or methyl alcohol are corrosive to aluminum. If the aluminium has impurities in it however it will look like the aluminium is oxidizing. Make sure to use high grade aluminum.
