Low engine vacuum

with that plug for the translator maf plus at the ign module white wire pin A disconnected the white wire is open ... ecu goes into bypass mode (code 42 will set ) . you should have seen the check engine light (SES) to tell you there was a problem
with the code 42 it runs off the small calpak chip . resulting in base base timing and default fueling..problem is the default fueling is for stock injectors , if you have larger injectors say 60s the fueling will be double what it should be ,extremely rich and would explain glowing manifolds and would have a hard time running on that much fuel and may have even fouled a couple plugs which would explain a low vacuum due to missing cylinder(s)

you should have noticed the SES lamp on startup and stopped at that point
now with the connector on A (white wire) looped ..clear the code .. check the plugs are clean and try again

About the only thing that will cause the headers to glow red hot like that is retarded ignition timing or fuel mix too rich, also cam way out of time. A glowing header is indication of fuel burning in header.

Kind of new to the forum so don't want to step on anybodys toes sounds like chuck is pretty sharp ,something else you might check with the vacuum being low and bouncing around is the pushrods being too long as I believe someone had mentioned earlier. this can cause the issues you described because the valves wont fully close causing low and fluctuating vacuum and also the header glow because as I mentioned earlier the only thing that will cause header glow is fuel is still burning in header. ie late ignition timing or way too rich.
