Is this some kind of virus attempt?

I got a suspicious pop-up when an unknown website came up. Mistyped a website and got one of those random search sites. This came up:

I couldn't find anything on Symantec. My definitions are up to date, and a scan in safe mode showed no infections. Think this is something from that site, or a virus I may have that I didn't find?

Who makes these things?

Looks to me like a typical popup to try to make you click an okay button.. It's an IE window saying that, and I have *never* seen or heard of IE doing anything except getting virii, not stopping them.

Plus its talking about the rpc exploit/virus (the blaster worm thing that hit bad awhile ago).. if you did all the updates to solve that problem, you should be fine.

That said, if your worried about it, head over to symantec or a similar site and look for a checklist about the msblast or blaster worm.. will ease your mind.
