Garrett a/r.60 m10

I am needing some help. I just recently bought a 87 GN. The car is an 8 out of ten. When i bought the car, this being my first ever turbo car, i was told that it had a john craig t60. while under the hood today i see garrett a/r 60 m10, with matching intercooler. My question is this a stock unit? Is garrett a crappy brand or what ? i bought this car from a lady which the car was passed down to her, so all we had to go on was a stack of invoices it does have percision stamped and help will be great
