Fad and/or Options that quickly Faded

How about giant band-aides that say "OUCH" on them to cover dents?
Fiberglass windshield visors, yuck.

Rallye double bladed wipers and wiper spoilers

Big gift ribbons hanging from your rear view mirror with the strings going down. You know what I'm talking about
If i think of any more i will post it  Wish i could pics of all this stuff.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Calvin peeing on stuff stickers.

I have pics of my 88 dodge shadow from high school. They are pretty embarrasing.

=]

Not sure if anyone mentioned these yet:

-- Flip down headlights

-- Those cheezy wipers that Mercedes put on their front headlights

-- Most annoying fads for me are the under glow lights and spinner rims.

-- Cool feature on my Audi was when I put the key in the door and turned it a certain way... all the windows would roll up and the sunroof would close. I LOVED that.

for me..

I still see the jacked up high rear low front with huge tire fad here, not as many as used to, but it happens with the trucks and muscle cars....

Garfield hanging on the window

as recently as 2004, hyundai offered cassette players by the way.

I've started seeing these shackled cars again. Something about "period builds" i.e. building cars like they did for certain periods. You know like the straight axle gasser style builds that were popular in the 50-60's. While not so radical as those mods, the shackles were big in the 70's. Some call them day two mods or something because that would have been one of the first things done to the car on the second day you owned it. I still have the shackles on my 68 Camaro :)redface: I know, but it's been off the road since the 80's) but I did get rid of the Keystone Klassic's along time ago. (If this period fad keeps up I might just have to find me another set.) It's still got the half moon headlight covers and diamond pleat interior too.

Remember the half Garfield that you would hang out from under the hood, trunk lid, or bumper?

One that I still see that I hate is the pouting brat dolls that everyone stands up against their bumpers at the car show.

My wife's 06 Chrysler Town and Country van has a factory cassette player in it along with the multi disc dvd player.

Rolls Royce Grilles that were on Cadillac's, Olds, Buicks

How about the RR front end kits for VW bugs.

I am suprised that no one here has mentioned the fad that Buick had going on in the 80's of taking a no frills passenger car, hanging a turbocharger on it and claiming it was a performance car. LOL.

-double wiper blades and the 3 or 4 wing things that clipped to the arms. At the same time, usually one wiper in the middle of the w'shield.

-tailgate nets

-The whole Hawaii decal set (10 local Motion decals as mentioned, and Sex wax)

-reverse offset wheels on fwd aka "froggy style"

-colored loom, gosh I hope its gone by now....

Colored anadizing on hose fittings.
Turned down engine tape striping.
White outline white letter tires.
Keystone Classics.
Those airplance shaped antennaes.
Monochromatic paint.
Chameleon paint.
Big foot accelerator pedal (anyone remember those- digging back abit)
8 track tape decks.
cassette tape decks.
Slick 50, etc snake oil products.
any octane booster in a bottle.
mud flaps.

Here is a crazy fad that died about 20 years ago.

Full steel chrome bumpers. Remember those? They were pretty popular, then they quickly died out.

Really though, the one thing I haven't noticed anymore is the loud thumpin' cars. Kids with their loud music just rolling down the road. I am glad though.

Under dash stereo/tape deck
Beaded seat cover (old people)
Wide tires sticking out from the wheel well
Big ass house speakers laying in the back seat
Craggers
Cherry bombs
purple hornies
lean burn system(if ya don't know don't ask):biggrin::biggrin:
whip antenna
the dog in the back window with his head bobbing up and down
beer tap topper on your shifter
after market fog lights hanging down from the front of the car
reverb
underdash aftermarket AC
pointed door lock (so you couldn't use a coat hanger to unlock)

?

What about those little dolls people have leaning against their car at car shows?

Is there a meaning to them?
