Any idea if anyone is making a good 3" downpipe for stock headers? Startin to panic at this point. If any Vendor or board member has one please let me know. Sinless would be great, but willing to take mild steel at this point. :(

ya red Armstrong at quad air has them in stock.

Are U sure ?

I talked to him last week after another member posted a picture of a bunch of TH style downpipes he had in stock and he told me then that he did not have them for an external gate.

Dennis of Pro-Trac racing down here near Joliet has made a few for customer cars. You could try giving him a call or shoot him an email.

I have stainless block off plates that wil make the stock style actuators compatable with an external gate (the plate blocks off the WG hole)

I don't understand why you would want an external gate when any 3 bolt turbo is easily controlled with the stock style WG.

I have used 4 different TH style pipes with different turbos, different actuators, new solenoids, different controllers, and all had problems with boost spike and maintianing the pressure I wanted. I finally went with an external pipe and a Tial wastegate.

Thanx for the info guys.

I have a guy that can build a pipe locally and I finally got ahold of him today, but I think Im gonna buy the pipe from Red then modify it with an external gate on the pipe and one on the crossover, that should keep the boost where i want it to be. Ill be ordering up that blockoff plate today too. Thanx again.

Check that..New plan.

Im just gonna pop for a racegate then do the DP mod. If anybody has a Racegate for sale let me know, before I buy it new.

ebay has the racegates pretty cheap look it up about 325-350 new in the box. also not to jump on the thread i myself have been in a delima to go external or not and can't get any real reason either way some like internal others external but im no looking for eyeball appeal im more looking for the best function of my setup. Ideas

Wastegate ...

I pretty much do the homework before I buy anything for my car after wasting some money in the begining. The popular belief by the pro-external set up guys is to run one Racegate and that will be more than enuff on a 11 sec. street car. I just picked up a mild steel 3" two piece DP with external gate and now I need to modify the flanges to accept the bigger opening of the racegate. If that is not possible, then I am back to the dual deltagate deal, which I was told may be a lil difficult to dial in both gates to work together properly. Nothing is ever easy on these cars. Thanx for the heads up on the ebay find Nailheadpowered, They are a 100.00 less than the vendors that have them. And they have the bigger flanges I need too.

If you're using the TPro, it has a built in controller that is rock solid. You need a 3 bar map, splics in boost harness for the TPro and the TPro wg solenoid. It'll be the last controller you'll need.

Hey Donnie~
That was all Pre-Pro. :D I can't wait to get the car running. I just got all my exhaust parts back from the coaters today. BTW, thanks much for the write up on installing the LC1 to the Pro, it helped a bunch.

We work on a couple of dozzen TRs. most have the stock style waste gates. none of them have ever had any problems. we have had some problems with the 2 or two external gate style waste gates controlling boost. A few may like them but why waste the money?
If you can't get the stock styles to work there is probably a reason that is not related to the actuator. (hole to small, leaking vacuum hoses or binding of the swing valve) there is really not much to them. both systems are just a controlled leak, one uses a vertical valve and the other a swing valve. there is no magic in one or the other.

Glad you found the LC1 write up useful ;)
