I've had a cracked header leak sound like a bad lifter

Likewise, what 68 said. When it finally blew out, it became a metallic flutter like an old rusted muffler!!!

Crossover usually fails at the area where it seals against the flange. Prior over tightening and flange distortion creates pressure points on the crossover mating surface and heat and pressure crack it

I could not see my leak (black spot) until i removed the crossover. From inside the car i could hear it coming from PS...IMO - sounded like a lifter.
