cooler line question

I was thinking of running some -4 AN cooler lines to a B&M super cooler,but I was told that I needed to stick to the stock 5/16 steel lines so that won't have a pressure drop in when the fluid enters the line because a -4 line is slightly larger (or so I was told I am still kinda of confused about what AN lines are equivilent with what standard sizes) For instance, is a -4 line close to 5/16 and what is -6,-8, and -10 close to? What would you guys recommend for this application? Any info and I will be thankful.

The AN number is the inside diameter of the hose in 1/16 inch increments. So #4 is 4/16 or 1/4 inch I.D.
