Caprice 8.5 axle vs GN

How much wider is the differential. Can anyparts be useful if the price is right. Are the axles the same or different splines? Any info is appreciated.

Working from fuzzy memory the BBody rear is 2-3 inches wider. The axles are longer and won't fit. The axle tube ends are different so the brake backing plates are different and won't fit. The lower control arm/shock mounts are further apart than on a GBody. I believe the axles are 28 spline like ours so if there is a posi it should fit okay, but that's it.

It sounded like a good deal. It was a police rear end with 3:42 posi. But I gather that only the pumpkin and internals would be good to use. I guess it could have been a good donor for a car with shot gears and bearings.

I think the number of splines is different on those Caprice differentials. I'm not absolutely positive.
