Bored @ work just some ideas

Hey would we stil use a MSD BTM or go with the Digital ? I think I may have found a deal for one (A BTM) ....A Squid doubling as a tattoo artist has it perks! ;)

If I remember right there's some issues with the idgital and injection. I know it wont work well with a regular draw through.

well thers alwasy the EZ-EFI from fast bolts toa 4 barrel intake and its dirt easy to install and program but costs like 1800 bucks

The FAST EZ-EFI is for NA only it won't read or work with boost. Just remember

sorry to throw you off Doc...I thought that read somehwere on here tthat the MSD was a way to help give better control over the timing and boost? Haha this is why I always ask and research before I buy though! ;)

The TBI FAsT unit is like close to 2 grand....Im looking buying a $150 harness (Hot Air) and maybe grab whatever other sensors I need for what?...maybe another $150 (Im not for sure, I haven't really priced anything SOLID yet ) Get the manifold fabbed up for EFI (One site I looked at had it going for around $500 ) I have a throttle body already from a LT1...86-87 ECM ($75) and be ready to rock

I know I'd have to add an return fuel line and I seen something about a hotwire fuel pump? (I need to read more on that) to further improve the fueling system. But im hoping that I get a better flowing car with the benifit of the new intake.

Sh@t this would be a lil bit cheaper if I had a 84-85 haha but i's cool...with the similarities between these whips I figure that this aways would give a dope and fast lil ride for the "cheap" that I can drive on the daily if I wanted to still....Especially paired up with modded Turbo the Mad Scientists have developed, and other improvements I plan on getting (3" down pipe,, 4.1 motor, Charlie's Snot Ported Out Heads)

So if I go thru with this (which I probably will) I'll definitely let you know the results...mostly because I will be bugging the hell outta ya'll for advice on the way!

Well if you want a HA car I can sell you most of what you need. I just tore a complete HA engine down and have not sold that much of it. I've got a harness as well. You will need a new fuel line though. I sold the line from the filter to the fuel rail and the injectors may need to be replaced since they were sitting with fuel in them for over 5 years.

Hey Charlie got a question...Im still waiting on the guy from that site to get back to me about the manifold what else would I need to put this motor together?
I have a wiring harness and an ECM already.
That would leave a coil pack, throttle body (I thought I had one but I must have sold it when I sold my Caprice :( ) MAF and whatever other sensor right? (Crank Sensor, Cam Sensor) not really for sure what else I would need haha can you clue me in? How much are you letting the sensors go for Charlie if I can swing it now I'll take them off your hands.

Im kinda lost in the Hot Air Upgrades (still, so im reading alot)...Im trying to find the improvements and upgrades for my motor because im not trying to do them later but I want to make sure im doing it the right way. I figure if im going to upgrade to a new motor I might as well do just that? I can use a MAF and Throttle Body from an LT1 correct? Should I get it bored out to 52mm? That's what I had before. I know bigger isn't always better with these bad boys so I just want to be sure. Because I can get those for cheacp if all I need is the stock 48mm and MAF.

Income tax is coming in a few months and I want to have this done around Feb/Mar time frame so im quadruple checking everything! Thanks for the help guys!

Not exactly sure what you're asking here. Kinda like reading the ramblings of an ADHD person. LOL

Hahaha my bad I wrotet that in a rush when my Chief and everybody was walking around the office!

Basically I was wondering what else would I need to convert my car to a Hot Air but with using an Edelbrock Intake Manifold? I already have a 86 ECM and a Hot Air Wiring Harness.

Can I use a LT1 Throttle body and Maf? because I can get them for cheap, and I how much would you be lettingg whatever other parts I needed (I.e. sensors and what not) go for?

hahaha hopefully thats a bit better for you!

To use the edelbrock intake would require a lot of work to say the least. You'll need to add bungs for the injectors and the height may be an issue with hood clearance. Remember that the throttle body is in front of the turbo and not behind it and the intake is taller. You'd be better off adapting a FWD intake which would shorten the air flow path quite a bit.

Yeah the guy who offered the service on his site would add the bungs for the injectors and the fuel rails...didn't think about the height of the intake though...my friend is a pretty slick welder so I guess I could have him make a little mod to my hood (bigger power bulge ) but I hope it doesnt have to come to that.

Not for sure what you mean by the throttle body being in front of the turbo and not behind it though? So the LT1 wouldn't fit?

I didn't think the FWD intake would with our heads? ..Man Im going to have to look under my hood tomorrow and figure some stuff out...Thanks for letting me bug you again!

There are several FWD SFI intakes out there. The earliest one is the one you need and it fits the RWD heads. The one I'm talking about is SFI that used a distributor instead of a coil pack. I think it was 85-86 with the 3.8. The only catch is that it has to mounted so that the water outlet is at the rear of the engine.

Charlie I got this in the email the other day

Hi Brandon,

Thank you for your email.

The cost to modify your manifold is about $900.00
Fuel rails and mounting stanchions will cost about $575.00

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

That's for the Edelbrock Performer intake...I was also thinking of using an adapter to bolt on a bigger turbo...still just an idea though
Im going to start looking into your option you suggested as well but what car were you refering to with the SFI intake...and whats the disadvantages to having a water outlet at the rear of an engine?

Nope...Im toying around with the idea of converting an Edelbrock Performer intake into an EFI intake and putting it on my 4.1. (To solve the intake issue with the Hot Air and Carb cars ) So I sent some ideas out to a few places to get some prices, I've also been bugging the hell out Charlie and lurking in the Hot Air forum to get a better idea of how things work and seeing some of the other out of box thinkers are doing things....That's how I work on things I dont understand. I read, research, ask, and repeat 10x :D

Is there a problem iwth Kinsler ? To be honest they were the ONLY ones to get back to me?

Also Is there any real issues with having to have a water outlet towards rear of a vehicle?
