3400 stall enough for a 70GTQ?

I have a high 10 second(on drag radials) full wieght WE4 and I am currently running a GT-6776s from LE and I am thinking of stepping up to 70GTQ. I have a Vigilante 3400 multi disc converter and I am curious if this is enough converter. The spool with the 67 is great and I don't want to step up to the 70 if it will be borderline or "iffy" as far as the spool goes. I have a ATR ext. gate downpipe with a Tial 38mm wastegate and I have the RJC boost controller. Thanks for the help.

I would go with more stall if you get a GTQ. 3800 at zero psi minimum.

I had to step up from a vigilante 3500 to a 4000 stall for my 70gtq. It just took forever to spool. Much better with the 4000 stall.

I got a couple of cars with 71GTQs and 3600 stall converters that work okay.

The converter below is what I had in my car. It was too much for me but it spooled a P Trim 70 very fast!

The Part # on converter is: 239725 (#7)

Stall speeds according to my data log. This was staging at the drag strip...

At 0psi it stalls 2900rpm
At 5psi I'm at 3700rpm
At 8psi I'm at 4100
At 10psi I'm at 4450
At 12psi boost the engine is turning 4600 RPM sitting STILL on the line!

I now have a lower stall that stalls 3700 at 10psi.

Which converter do you have now? #0 pump?

The very first converter I bought was a 0 pump. I used this one for about 8 years with a TE-70 P turbo. It didn't want to spool very good at the drag strip but I liked the way it felt as a daily driver. This past year I had it restalled to a #7...which was too much IMO. I done that because I was going to get a 70GTQ...but haven't yet. Right now I have my nephew's converter in the car and it works perfect. I didn't think to get any numbers off of it when I put it in about 3 weeks ago but I think it's one stall speed higher than the 0 pump. This converter was bought by a friend of mine several years ago for his GN. He said when he bought it he told them he wanted a converter one step higher than a 0 pump.

So the consensus is that 3400 is not enough for a 70GTQ and would be questionable with a 70 P-trim, sound correct?

I'd say 3800 is the right match, and 3600 is the lowest you would want to go. If it's a drag only car, why not go 4000? DD, 3600-3800

My 0 pump Vig 3400 - 3600 works perfect. I would'nt want to go any higher and lose mph on the other end. It's all in the tune for a quick spool. If you're concerned go with a .63 housing, but I like the .85.
