What is Your Tow Vehicle?

I love my Ex. I didn't have any problems with mine till 200k. Until then it was all stock except for the computer tune I used. It is all about the care you give it. Once the typical problems are dealt with it, it can be a great vehicle! Especially since I have 6 boys, large camper and all the stuff that goes with it. Of course the one woman can out pack us boys for a weekend trip tho. Lol

What kind of mileage do you get? I am wondering if my wallet would improve or just keep what I have

That's a loaded question. It depends on your set up and your tune you use. If I have the camper I am in the 12-14 range. If I have a car trlr and car, my truck doesn't kno it's there and can see 18. But if I treat her nice ease the accelerater on I can see 20. Plus they run forever. I kno a guy who is on 389k now.

Let me clarify

I was looking for possibly a different vehicle that gets better mileage but not sacrificing the ability to tow my car.

Well. If u need the space it is a GREAT ride. but I don't necessarily think it's any better than what you have. For the price these things are still getting I don't think in the long run it will save you. I guess it depends on how often you use it to tow something. I do believe it will have increased fuel mileage over the Yukon but the fuel is more expensive, maintenance on a diesel is more than a gas motor and then the cost of the ride in general.
Those are All things To Consider when you are looking for a ride.

go turbo diesel. best bang for buck

07 trailblazer ss 2wd. 22mpg Highway. 17 towing my camaro and 18ft car hauler. This is one of the best Tow vehicle I have ever owned.

I had an enclosed and sold it to buy this alum open. Tows nice and great fuel mileage compared to towing the closed (1/2 the fuel). I do miss the enclosed some days but for the amount of times I go racing this is best for now

I have had several tow vehicles having towed over 300 Turbo Regals...On my second car trailer. Trick is to buy the lightest open trailer possible. Replace the made in china tires that now come on almost every trailer, and balance the wheels.

Best trucks I had bar none....I had a 2001 Chevy 2500 HD with the 8.1 gas engine Allison transmission. When rust attacked the rear frame area I traded for the same identical truck in the GMC version with the 8.l Allison transmission.

Those trucks had I think superior pulling power as I would travel as far west as the Mississippi River for Turbo Regals.

Once I more or less stopped buying turbo regals on a huge scale I have now a super mint 2005 Tahoe that I believe probably has every single option offered including dvd player captain seats in the back NAV SAT heated seats. I put on 2008 Chevy wheels 17 inch over the 16 inch.

Like my other trucks all used all paid for no payments so fuel mileage would not be good but then again I only used them for trips.

The 8.1 gas engines are very hard to find.....not sure even if GM offered that option after that earlier body style 2001-2004 vintage.

Thanks Dennis. The 8.1 is a huge motor and since I drive my car daily it's a bit harder to swallow $60 every two days that I could be spending in your store. Lol

Back when those 01-04 were new, the co my brother worked for had 6.0 and 8.1 and he said there wasn't more than 3mpg different but the 8.1 had a LOT more power. I like diesel as much as the next guy but the upkeep and entry fee tips them out of my price range.
I drive my 454 daily but only 20 miles round trip to work doesn't hit too hard.

Currently use my father's 03 Trailblazer EXT 4.2 I6. 16-17mpg mixed unloaded. Got 13 going to Cecil County Dragway with an 18ft open aluminum trailer. May be looking into one of those new Colorados/Canyons with the baby duramax when they come out late next year.

Here's my old tow vehicle....to the tracks and back.

I thought that set up was red. Is that a newer one?

2016 Model year (4th quarter 2015) you can get a 2.8 4cyl turbo duramax that is used by gm in the global colorado right now. something like 180hp and 365 ft lbs and 7500lb towing capacity. Gas 3.6 V6 300hp availible 4th quarter 2014 and would tow 6700lbs.

Nice. Even the v6 may be an option.

That's where I'm headed. I don't want or need a full size so it would be a great alternative. Only mid size trucks around are the frontier and tacoma and all they are good for is towing a small pop up or ATV/jet skis.

That was from the first season. It has since changed wraps about 10 times. Cab is now red, trailer is black on red.
