I'm Back..let the wrenching begin !!

There's a huge thread on the pypes system in the general section. Pics and everything Vince. Do a search for "pypes" and you should be able to find it.

exhaust in pipe

I split the old exhaust pipe in half..don't think it was asbestous after all..(more like the stuff used around the door on a wood burning stove)..and welded it together...It was about 3/4 of an inch off...fits like a glove now.. Question ...those ribs on the pipe...??? they are not for flex thats for sure...I am thinking it was some kind of attempt to make the pipe a little air cooled or something.. I plan on using a heat wrap 2 inch to keep the heat down under the hood...I should cover the whole thing right...not leave those fins sticking out ??
I plan on selling the old holley 4 barrel manifold...I had it on the car and worked pretty good...but the ports did not line up too well.. any body know what year car these will fit ?? I also have the old cast iron exhaust manifolds...would they even sell ??

Oh, this brings back memory's.

Are you going to run a 6 BTM ? or staying with the HEI setup? If you are going to run The MSD setup, and you still have your ESC "Turbo Control Module" . You could use the white wire trigger on the MSD Box so you can maintain the timing retard from the ESC. (that is what I did before I went to a billet dist. (hall effect output) but I also modified that to work with the ESC.

But I weld the weights in the HEI dist and used MSD's Timing control for spark advance.

I was not running a computer.

I believe that was to give some flex in the pipe so when the turbo and other exhaust got hot and expanded more than the rest of the system, that would move instead of stressing the pipe and making it crack.

some one would buy the exhaust manifold i think if you have both you can sell them to 83 turbo he has been having issues with his headers i think.

The intake fits 78 and earlier heads Vince. Fred's right about the "ribbed" section. It's there for slight flex when everything heats up.

"Flex Pipe"

I think maybe it was just ment to look like a Flex Pipe...This pipe is double wall thickness and in the bends is another thickenss of metal.. I hit this pipe with a 4 lb hammer when it was on just to get to move a fraction of an inch..nothing..pipe is rock solid..I am pretty sure its just cosmetic...Pipe would look really great chromed..but who wants all that heat under the hood.
I am not really sure what a 6BTM is...I have a Vortec Supercharger Ingition Boost control...made by MSD....and a HEI Vacumn controlled Distributor...From what I have read about this box is that it is just boost control and not a spark amplifiler...now I might be wrong here...hey I am just a newbee when it comes to all this stuff ( Turbo charging) I think the old computer for this car is stuck up in a tree limb somewhere where I heaved it..Now I am starting to realize all the good stuff a computer can do and starting to appreciate it more than I did..
Have to get on that old holley carb and throw a rebuild kit at it.

A 6BTM is an ignition control box that has the boost control in it. Do a search for MSD 6BTM and do some reading. They really can clean up ignition issues. You have the BTM so all you really need is a 6A box to go with it.

Sparking it.. 6A MSD BOX

That would probably be multiple sparks over a broader time period with more guts to make sure all the gas if burned....that is if I read up about correctly...trying to get my hands on one soon..

Well I got one off evilbay real cheap. I paid less than $150 and it was new. The only other thing I need now is the timing control to have all I need.

eXHAUST

Good for your...you made a great score...I am watching a few as we speek.. I thought you were all set up allready, do you have another project in the works??
A question about exhaust...when I took off the old exhaust manifolds there were no gaskets...and these were never removed before , I am the orginal owner....well my mother was... So should I purchase exhaust manifold gaskets for the tube headers I put on ??
Also with the Stainless pipes...I have noticed that when we had a Stainless system put on a customers car it looked really nice.... but it had a tinny sound and a ringing to it. But with a regular steel system it did not ring and had a nice warm tone. That is one thing why I am leaning to a regular system.. I made a custom system once for my Cuda, Just used cheap high temp paint on it and it held up pretty good....the only place I got rust was where the exhaust clamps went on... I should of painted the pipes with the the clamps off then reinstalled them. With this new Cermanic paint out there the paint should really hold up...that Cermanic paint needs a kind of a rough surface to stick to though.. You cant really find high temp primer...yet..

Oil drain nipple

OHHHHH Yea....sweet...got it from a tuner in LA on E-Bay...Its 5/8 od...Have a SS braided hose on the way too..

Nice looking Vince. I'm not completely set up yet. I still need a few things and the cash to put it all together. If I get the puter working right I can use everything I have but if I can't then I'm gonna need a turbo control center and PEVR valve, which I have yet to find.

Turbo control center??

What is a turbo control center ? Here is a guy on the web talking about the same thing with a TA...and one ratty carb just incase somebody is interested.
