new penetrating oil

looks good, wonder what they are using for the refrigerant too chill, since all of the ones in use now need to be captured or not vented into the atmosphere?? interesting

Ron, check out the cans of "air" used for dusting electronics.:) The cans get VERY cold when spraying, and the stuff inside [propellant] will kill you if breathed it directly.

EPA has not got that covered yet.

that's been out for a while- a few years, at least. never tried it, tho, since i've got a good penetrating oil already. the GM heat valve penetrant is the best stuff going, and it is also sold by Gunk under the "Liquid Wrench" brand. the foamy stuff is the good stuff.

Looks interesting. I'm still partial to good old PB Blaster :)

I wander if that would work good on the nuts holding the cat on so I can finally get my test pipe on? I've been trying and can not get the nuts to break loose.

My buddy sent me a link to a somewhat new penetrating oil made by Loctite. Its called Freeze and Release. I guess it chills the bolt to -45 F and then lets the penetrating oil in between the treads.

Anyone every try it?

Welcome to: Loctite® Freeze & Release

Tried it and didn't work worth a crap.

PB works good but Evans got the right idea.

Kano Aero-Kroil is a good one too!

Kroil has been around for a while and works like nothing else out there. Best stuff on the market for sure.

We could use NO2 to freeze the bolt then hit it with PB blaster.... Got lots of NO2 down at the shop.

Kroil is my favorite. Here is a summary of a test that was published in Home Shop Machinst:

"The April/May 2007 edition of Machinist's Workshop did a test of penetrating oils where they measured the force required to loosen rusty test devices. Buy the issue if you want to see how they did the test. The results reported were interesting. The lower the number of pounds the better. Mighty interesting results for simple acetone and tranny fluid!

Penetrating oil . Average load .. Price per fluid ounce
None ................. 516 pounds .
WD-40 .............. 238 pounds .. $0.25
PB Blaster ......... 214 pounds .. $0.35
Liquid Wrench ... 127 pounds .. $0.21
Kano Kroil ........ 106 pounds .. $0.75
ATF-Acetone mix.. 53 pounds .. $0.10

The ATF-Acetone mix was a 50/50 mix (1 to 1 ratio)."

This was from: Please confirm MW article on Penetrating Oil - The Home Shop Machinist & Machinist's Workshop BBS and the test was to soak rusty pins for 8 hours then measure the force to push them out. Also, power steering fluid was actually used instead of atf, by mistake.

Target shooters actually use Kroil as a bore cleaner. It will actually creep under copper fouling and loosen it.

When I put the Poston headers on my car- I had bought a can a day or so before to try -figured I didn't have anything to lose... sprayed bolts and waited 1-2 minutes (as directed on can) and once I got the bolts turned 1/4 to 1/2 turn I could remove easily with my fingers--just my experience with it!!
I thought it worked great!!

There's a recipe for homemade bore cleaner called Ed's Red that has been floating around the web for a decade+, it is equal parts mineral spirits, kerosene, ATF, and acetone. Does a great job on carbon fouling and pretty well with copper, probably by dissolving carbon from underneath the copper. Works great as a parts cleaner but the acetone evaporates pretty quickly (still works well without it). I pretty much just use ATF as a penetrating/lubricating oil unless it is really rusty or nasty, then I break out the kroil.

Lots of good info here. I usually use PB, but you are always looking for the next best thing. :D

It seems most people have not tried Freeze & Release yet. I found it online for 8.99 a can. Not bad if it works. I'm thinking of maybe getting some of the Kano Kroil to try out. Where can you get that?
