Monster 5" DP from DLS

I remember Jim Lauer's silver T having a very nice downpipe on it. I don't think it was copied from anyone's design. Folks can have things made if they want.

Lol

But serious...

do it don that would be sick! your set up and new turbo will love you for it! Off the side same location as your current DP and wastegate! BTW your gate can hang with your new turbo right?

The companies and venders using china is old news, but there are many venders out there today, using them and people here dont even know!

I dont so much havea problem with hte pipe if its copied,Its a pipe,But if his 5 inch to 3 bolt adaptor
was copied,Now that is wrong.
Its not even remotely the same as copying a TH style pipe.

It's a 60mm. Not really sure. Most likely I'll have to install the CO2 bottle for the higher boost settings.

The way I feel about DPs is the pipe diameter should be at least 1" over the outlet diameter of the turbine housing. If it's found that a turbine housing needs to be 5" to breathe properly, then the pipe needs to be larger so that it doesn't offer any resistance. Resistance to the 6" pipe is futile.

About this copying junk. Keep in mind that we're talking about simple flanges, adapters and tubing. Do you really think that capable people are going to stop making their own stuff because someone put a flange and pipe together? Come on.

If someone plans on cornering the market and making some big moola off of an idea, it better be more complicated than a flange and a small amount of pipe.

I think this new pipe is nice. I particularly like the long taper section.

RJC puts out Quality components, put me on the list for one of your new DPs. I go out of my way to not by China products, it is almost impossible. With car parts I demand quality over price. If it costs 3 times as much but it is a quality piece, to me its worth its price.

I agree whole heartedly about the China parts and quality. And I think it's great that people in the Buick community support a fellow Buick enthusiast.

I also think it's great that more people are getting involved in offering product for the Buick community. Options in the market are not a bad thing. It forces vendors to do better, quality wise, at a better price for the consumer (us). Why anyone would not welcome more choices is beyond me. Choices is the American way.

Stolen Idea

I think it's pretty clear that Jason RJC was the first to engineer that 5 inch downpipe design for the BUICKS. Tapering the pipe down was something he was working as well he had photos posted on his sight.

You're kidding me right? Do you really think Jason was the first person to think of using a 5" pipe after the turbo on a Buick?

x2 agree 110% Impossible to say that.

Is RJC's stuff american made then  , including DP's and INTERCOOLERS?

The DLS Downpipe is a nice peice; It would be cool though for a DIY kit to convert a 3.5" DP to a big 5" Monster, as I mentioned earlier a product like this would automatically include ALL who have a 3.5" and up Downpipe, which is a considerable amount of people. Weld a logo on the 5" bend with "DLS Hybrid " or "DLS Downpipe" to solidify its your DIY kit. I dont care where its from as long as I (the customer) am NOT LIED TO!

Ha Ha Ha !!! Do you recognize the difference between thinking and engineering? Its the DESIGN i am talking about, RJC ENGINEERED IT and built it, there is a difference. RJC spent the time to draw the blue print, wrote the program, and did the setup in his CNC machine! He didn't buy it and send it out to be copied:)

I wouldnt say that Don,But the way the 5" is adpated to the stock 3 bolt turbo was definetly HIS design.
Does that adapotr come with hte downpipe from DLS? Or is that one of Jasons he is using?

Here's a pic off Jason's website. Hardly a "simple" flange. Pure innovation and a brilliant design.
