So I'm pulling my GN out of White Racing after taking it back to them because my knock sensor was running in the red after spending a small fortune with them and I blow a head gasket:mad: Could that be caused by that knock not doing right??? I'm so upset!!!

After you calm down, you might to give a better explanation.
Are you saying you blew a HG idling it out of their shop? or
Did it blow a HG because you had some much knock prior to taking the car back to them and the HG was already blown when you got it to the shop?

What did they do to the car? Did you have them do the upgrades you talked about in your other thread?

When I blew a HG at the track, I took the car back to the engine builder and told him it happened backing out of my driveway. I don't think he believed me, but after reading this thread I guess pigs really CAN fly.

Elaborate on the "pulling out" part. I'm thinking your car was fine, and then you got down on it to see if it was good to go and....well you know.

What did you have them do for you? Did they pull the heads while at the shop? Give a little more information for us to work with.

I didn't do the other upgrades because I wanted to make sure my car ran good without those upgrades. I hit the gas one good time on my street and all of a sudden smoke starts spitting out. When I first got the car out the knock was reading red at about 40 mph so I wanted to take it back into the shop to have them check it out. They said it was reading wrong because of an aftermarket knock meter.

Tell me if I been had and overpaid for my work on my GN

I see several items done/changed, that would/could affect the boost, and fuel delivery. I also see that there's no $ for the dyno/road test. Was that done?
I'd be REAL wary of the comment on the knock, and the cause.. It's because of an aftermkt gauge...Properly installed, that's bull$hit...
I do not see a fuel pump/system upgrade on the list. Was that already on the car?
Some of those "items" are really pricey! $320 for 4 shocks? Konis? Especially, when the ft end was down for bushings.[And, 2 hrs labor!]
Coil springs @ $155. ABSURD.
"Double dipped" you on the radiator, hoses, stat. $80 to supply and replace the hose, when the rad was being taken out anyway??
Bottom line: You got the hammer.. File a CC complaint, and ask for a chargeback, until the problem are identified & corrected. [Assuming they are at fault.]
Sure am glad I do my own work!!

Good point!!!

blown head gasket

Well if what you say is true didn't they check the knock sensor out when they had it at the shop? because how do they know that the sensor is faulty ? also does this shop know what they are doing with turbo cars? In my experience when it comes to any technician doing his job no matter what the job is ,some techs are very good and some are parts changers which means they change out parts until it is fixed if they fixed it at all, and then there are others that just bull **it and tell you what you want to here.

I would recommend a performance shop that knows what they are doing. ANDERSON PERFORMANCE, COTTONS PERFORMANCE , HARTLINE PERFORMANCE, ESP, and sorry if I let any others out. these shops have the experience.

I am not defending anyone but any time you (pump up the
volume) you will find the weak link. Some times due to
no ones fault. As bad as I hate to hear what happened
That being said I suppose you had a quote or est. on the
work to be done. They took the pan off? To inspect bottom
end (guess). They bolted on a bunch of stuff, but I don't
see a charge for tuning.

I don’t own a shop nore do work on cars for any one but I’ll give my .02 on the prices

7-8 Misc Rear Lower Control Arm Bushings 2.0 156.40 i would also have a problem with this

on this it depends on what type of shocks you asked for(KYB’s go for $37.00 each)
and to do some of the other suspension work your Shocks WOULD already have been removed like in the radiator and trans work??????

It looks like they charged you individual prices for each job and that I would have a problem with that.

To replace a control ARM you HAVE TO remove the shock and spring!!
So now to replace the shocks witch already have been removed to do the control arm they still charge you full labor price?????
and to replace the springs witch are already out of the car to replace the control arm bushings they again charge you full labor price???????
And the same goes for the Radiator stuff.
Dude you need to buy a tool set and a couple of books. All of this work could have been done in you driveway (in the summer) or a small garage with a floor jack and some jack stands.
Sorry about your situation.
Now take the bill to shop owner and have a nice calm conversation (I really DO MEAN NICE and CALM) with him/her remind him/her of what a good customer you are and of how much money you just dropped with them and see if they could do something for you.
Good luck Dude

JESUS!!! Thats why I do my own work, the prices are freakin rediculous. And no offense but replacing the stock control arm bushings cost you more than new aftermarket ones would have. the springs are 3 times more than they should be. Remind me to not ever deal with them.

Thanks for the info!!! Anything else anybody sees that is crazy??

wow 5 grand, kinda at a loss for words.
yes they did some double dipping but on the other hand

I sit here and think what in the world are you doing owning one of these if you cant replace a lower rad hose, tranny filter, thermostat..on and on and on then come in here and ask "hey did i get screwed?" yeah you got screwed when ya bought it

I want to sympathize but im just having a hard time justifying someone owning one of these 20 yr old cars that has to pay that much or any labor rate for simple preventative maintenance.

please forgive me but this would be the last damn car id own if i couldnt turn a wrench.

like post before me stated..buy a book or two, some tools, take some classes or find local guy to help work on it and stick around to learn while hes working on it

once again good luck

True, you bought the wrong car if you can't do the baisics. Get prepared to spend ALOT more money in the future.

Thanks stack..i got thinking about it and started to feel like i was a little harsh, i dont mean to be..then i got thinking about the list and the original thread and that was head gasket blown and why...so i scrolled up and found this

1 Misc Waste Gate Actuator, HP 0.5 125.00

So they replaced it?... adjustable and they didnt adjust it? leaving 1/8 inch or was it cranked in 20 turns and they just slapped it on?
maybe....hmmmmmmm good way to overboost and thar she blows.

Id prolly be willing to drive down to warren and have a look if he floated my fuel
