who's is this?

Before Black Racing a few mod on my site wont change the look of the engine either. like charlie said blocking off the heat crossovers is a great mod that wont change the look at all and its good for a extra 8-15 hp.

Nothing wrong at all ... YOU drive your car(s), I put mine away and will never drive. < I need to be better in some measure > (enjoy cars more).
I am looking for an 87 T-Type and found a dandy once, (I LOVE White) I was all ready to purchase when I found out I would have been 9th owner !
"That laid me out flat". Anyway, after that most T-Types are all monkeyed with ... stickers, and air filters that just look horrid ! NOTHING turns me
away more. Working at the dealership level all my day may play into it. *Most aren't like you, they "bore a new ass" and saw up there instrument
panels, and ruin everything ... Gauges every place, LED's ... UG !!! "It's No Soap with me".

Who's ttype have you been looking at with stickers? Unless you plan on buying a 25k time capsule, it's gonna have something aftermarket on it. I've spent 6 yrs and over 10k doing a frame off on my car. It's 1 of 1547, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna let it sit in a garage just to wait for someone else to enjoy it. It's just a car and I plan on enjoying the fruits of my labor by putting some miles on it with my wife in the passenger seat and puttin the smack down on local naysayers. With all due respect the carb turbo cars are not gonna reach the value of the SFI cars. All you are doing is saving it for someone else. Rich's turbo 82 GN is the only one i could see going up in value.

Na, I know that. (This car I spoke of was 27 K in Ohio). "I'd never buy 2nd rate anything" ! But look on Ebay for example ...*the majority of these cars are NOT original. I prepped these back at the time at the Nations Flagship Buick Dealership and loved every moment all the way till the end with two GNX,s. BUT: When I see "Wicked T" decals, console covers, Carpet etc ... (and a meteoroid of other things) I "look on". YOU Married the right gal ! My wife is totally disinterested in such things and all I get is: "yes honey" ... `your old smelly cars very nice`. "lol". As I said earlier, I enjoy "fixing up" ... after that an occ. spin is all I care to do. I will say that WHEN (and I will) find the right T-Type, that'd I'd probably drive it much more often. ah ... "who knows". Retaining value (I think I'll retain at the very least) is always nice ... after that I personally am not interested in the money. You can't assign "money value" too TRUE enjoyment ! In the end ya do it for YOU ... ANYTHINGS "worth" what you can get. ;)

Leave it alone !!!!!! I had a blk 80 with a porno red interior.. Performance ???? hahahahaha.. What a dog. Like I said .. LEAVE IT ALONE :p

Different smokes for different folks I guess. I love modding anything I can get my hands on. I will say I am not a fan of cutting holes, changing colors, etc.

i totally understand leaving the car stock. that's exactly my dilema. my regal vin shows a turbo. if i were to resel,l the car would be worth half as much. back in the day modding was popular. it always was. but i know one thing, original gets the best return on investment. the gn may be worth the most, but more and more people are realising that b4black cars have just as much potential and in some cases they are just as desireable. i was very excited when i ran the vin. it's not a gn but because i know why the car is important, i feel like i should keep it stock. i like clones too, but a clone can be modded and increased value as a result. i think a b4black is worth more as is.

Hi ya Dan,

IC what ya mean, but in the end you do it for YOU! Have the most fun and don't do anything for "someone else" (later).
Who cares if you did this or that ... In my case most all of it was already there. What's amazing is that so few are left, (and their were so many once)! I go to my area yards and only one or two have "anything" ... *the ones after that are all picked clean !

Show us some pictures at some point OK? I'm DONE with mine except for the turbo ... I've tried everything I can think of and the Turbos DEAD in the water. NO "New" Turbos are available (I have to assume that's what wrong). Yet the things tight, spins, has no play at all ... (I can even hear it "spool), yet I NEVER get any boost (or a light). From the Secondaries opening to the detonation sensor and the waste-gate actuator ... I've looked at EVERYTHING.

Ah well .................................

Best, Tom ;)

Go to your user controls and add a location Tom. One of us may be near enough to help you out.:)

i was at the local starbucks this morning and guess what i saw? i saw a range rover, i saw a hummer i even saw a few of those new fangled chargers. this can mean only one thing..... there are too many selfindulgent wieners with too much bloody money! now, if i were driving a 1980 buick 3.8l turbo with a T roof, i would not be self indulgent. i would be a connoiseur. may be from the movies but it is the truth. as for the money bit, it's just money. the true value is in the cars history/ bragging rights. when people see me pull up in the black buick, they don't see the 1980.... what they see is the a$$ wooppin buick regal that handed it out daily back in 86 or 87. i can live with that respect. everyone knows the regal and not many remember the cars it stomped. bragging rights out the window and buick was the only one able to do it with 1/2 the displacement. now we see a new rice burner on every other corner and what do they fear?????? BUICK. to restore a stock buick turbo that's all the reason i need. i'll have pics up soon.

did you hook up a gauge or are you using the lights?

did you hook up a gauge or are you using the lights?
I used a gauge. (off the same outlet as the hose the "boost lites" use, at the Turbo's base). Floored, I get 6 lbs (the yellow lite equivalent) and that's it. I figure the Turbo's done for.

The Bering's great (It does have "my-nute" shaft play) and I've tried 3 waste-gate actuators. The timings perfect and the Carburetor's functioning fine (4 Barrel appears to be fine ... ) I can EASILY hear the Turbo "spool" (whine) but only get (guessing) 20% of it's potential.

I remember these well when new, this car won't "leap off the road" (power-wise ie an SFI System) ... but it did "respectfully" well when it met 2nd gear and up. *We had them in Riv's and LeSabres too. (Turbo Engines) I used to prep them so I know.

Here however, theirs "nothing". *I'm burned out from trying EVERYTHING.* It's frustrating as the engines like new. I'm not a hot-roder (myself personally) .... "I'd just like it too work tho".

I'd bet your turbo is OK. They either work or don't work - not much in between.

6 lbs of boost is exactly what you will see if the quardajet's secondaries are not opening. I'd check them again. On my '83 T Type, the throttle cable was the problem. On my '82, the spring on the secondary throttle shaft was out of place. Get the engine warm, then shut it off, open the hood, take off the carb elbow and work the throttle linkage by hand to see of the secondaies are opening up.

When actuators fail, the overboost. You can always wire the wastegate shut and ease into the throttle, if you can't get above 6 psi, then something else is wrong.

Low boost is often a restriction in the air intake or the exhuast.

Understand perfectly! (IOW your waiting until the unloader falls (choke unloader) and THEN see what's what. *The Turbo ??? * I did wire it shut (tried that). Of interest was the FACT that it seems to be noticeably better (Perf.) with the air-inlet is disconnected. Again: Turbo will spool (VERY APPEARANT Hearing this) .... "just no power". The Secondaries I feel are OK as I've adjusted them 3x. It does feel as tho their NOT opening at all (your right) ... but after having said that, the only way to be sure would be to actually see them working (with hood off). I wish you were here and we could problem solve this together ! You help / opinions are WELL respected to say the least.

< Shit .... I just don't know what the hell ta do >

I understand what you are saying about needing the hood off. You would have to run fast to keep up with the car. :)

But with the engine hot (and off), you should be able to work the throttle linkage with one hand while holding the air valves with the other hand. Then you should be able to look down inside and see the secondaries opening.

Or at this point I swap carbs with another one and see if the problem remains. Of course you need a spare carb for this.

IC. *I have a spare Carb* ***Too see the butterfly (the rears) "open" HOT, one must (under WOT) open the sprung loaded TOP Butterfly Valve to see that of the lower butterfly right ? *IOW the top opens just altttle.... while the bottoms WIDE open (un-loader off / hot engine)

The other things that you needn't be WOT all the time for the Turbo ! IOW, at 50-60 % throttle in an "aggressive" say "2nd gear curve" you STILL SHOULD call up the Turbo (as I remember it) ... Here, (again) it runs like a normal non-turbo 3.8

Understand? (NOT BEING insulting and never would too you) .... :) *I remember these things at the top of their game being very aggressive (even at a moderate throttle) to "go". *Thanks again / again for input !!!!
