Wheel spacers vs large area washers

How dumb an idea is this?

I can see that the only area of contact would be where the washers are and not in the middle area of the wheel between the bolt holes and the wheel bearing.

Another thing to consider is with a spacer or as you put it using washers. Unless your studs are long enough to get through the lug nut with at least a thread or two sticking out you are loosing the strenth of the stud and clamping force. This in my opinion is not a good thing. If you have to do something get the wheel spacers. Using washers the center hole on the washer will not center the stud.

I have a spacer on the DS. Just wondering how bad an idea this is.
