What is difference between Commander and extender

Like the title says, i read the full throttle website, but i am uncertain. Is the big difference that the Commander chip does NOT require a translator?

True. The Commander chip is designed to give you the same features as the Extender, but...... The commander is designed to run with the STOCK MAF.

If it uses the stock MAF isn't that a restriction? From what i understand the stock maf pegs out at 255? and supposedly the extender allows it to go to 512 or something like that.

Yes, the extenders do that, but they are not designed to be used with a stock MAF. So the commander is there for those that choose to keep running the stock MAF (as I do in my wife's 87).
